[qubes-users] Re: How to build Qubes with patches from Xen ?

2021-04-01 Thread Josef Johansson
Hi,

You should take my words with a grain of salt since I'm doing this the
first time around. But anyhow.

Go to https://www.qubes-os.org/doc/qubes-iso-building/ and make sure you
have a Fedora VM to download everything to, and plenty of space.

Download a builder.conf file from
https://github.com/QubesOS/qubes-release-configs/blob/master/R4.0/qubes-os-iso-full-online.conf

(or 4.1 if that's the version you are building)

In that file, add vmm-xen under COMPONENTS

run
make remount
make install-deps
make get-sources

Now, go into qubes-src/vmm-xen and add you patch as a file.
Enter xen.spec.in and add your patch-file under upstreamable, you'll notice
the pattern.

Go back to qubes-builder and run make vmm-xen, and the rest of the entries
in $COMPONENTS in builder.conf.

( At this point you have rpm-files inside chroot-* in qubes-builder that
you actually could install in dom0 instead of building a full ISO. )

run
make iso

please note that it will take a while.

[qubes-users] Re: Poor battery life running Qubes

Hi,

Just curious, is xen-acpi-processor module loaded in dom0 (lsmod / modprobe
xen-acpi-processor) and what does xenpm get-cpufreq-para tell you?

Hi,

As another data point:
This is happening in debian-10 as well. However not in debian-11.

[qubes-users] HCL- Dell-Latitude-E6320(intel i7)

2021-04-01 Thread A Luciani
Installation instructions

   1. Use ISO Qubes
   2. Make sure secure boot is off
   3. When booting to install, select “Install Qubes OS"
   4. Finish installation and boot into OS

Nothing special about this model. ISO r4.1 does not boot (without changed
parameters).
Remarks

The important things work:

   - Wifi
   - Sound
   - HDMI
   - USB (internal & external)
   - Fedora 32/33

Not tested:

   - Bluetooth
   - Microphone
   - PCI Wireless 5550 WWAN Mobile Broadband DW5550
   but both seems to work

[qubes-users] Re: Compiling XEN 4.15 in vmm-xen

2021-04-01 Thread Josef Johansson
So basically, since I'm moving from 4.14 to 4.15, there is a lot of
dependencies e.g. core-libvirt, qubes-vchan-xen and kernel-qubes-vm that
needs to be recompiled against the new xen-devel.

I just missed the warnings about xen-libs not being possible to upgrade.

core-libvirt fails on 3 tests though.

[qubes-users] Backup to SMB mounted NAS in AppVM

2021-04-01 Thread Beto HydroxyButyrate

Last night I tried to run QubesBackup, selecting an AppVM as the target,
and then selecting the SMB-mounted (r/w) folder.
The backup process started, and the progress bar presented a small sliver
of blue on the left, but was 0%. Nothing was ever written to the target.
No errors were ever suggested by the backup process. Pretty much 0% CPU
was being used in dom0.

After several hours, I closed the dom0 QubesManager window, which also
closed the backup window, and tried re-running it directly as "Qubes
Backup" from the menu. It claimed I had a backup running. Still nothing
whatsoever written to SMB mounted folder.

Has anyone successfully written to SMB mounted share using backup?

[qubes-users] Screen shot: open in DocumentViewer in AppVM

2021-04-01 Thread Beto HydroxyButyrate

When I screen scrape in dom0, one option is to open in DocumentViewer in
one AppVM.
I assume it is because this is the only AppVM I have DocumentViewer added
to the big menu. Anyway, nothing ever happens. Does anyone use this? Has
anyone used this?

I also try "Copy to the ClipBoard" assuming I can then do a "Copy Dom0
Clipboard" and then paste in some AppVM but when I select "Copy Dom0
Clipboard" I get a "dom0 clipboard is empty!" popup.

I'm trying to optimise the workflow of scraping screen and getting it to
where I want it but the only way I can get it to work is to save it to
Pictures in dom0 and then manually xfer it to some target VM and then
rummage about in on the appVM Rather cumbersome.

I'd also like to optimise the screen capture initiation. On other
platforms, I have a nice control-meta-cokebottle sequence. I actually
don't know what it is. My fingers know.
