I need maximum security/Anonymity so I'll be using Debian 9 as you suggested. Then I need to change the templates of all the VMs using Fedora to Debian 9, right (I am not sure whether I need to this step)? Here's the pic of my VM manager which shows which of my VMs use Fedora(upgrade to Fedora 24 is not done yet and Debian 9 upgrade is going on) https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B6WGzRCGUJYCeFU0SFliSTVzbzQ/view?usp=drivesdk Also, just check that the NetVMs of all my VMs are correct(assuming that I need to use tor under the protection of Whonix in Anon-whonix app-vm). I messed with the NetVMs so it'll be great if you just checked and confirmed that it's right. Also do I need to do steps under:" Compacting the Upgraded Template" in upgrading Debian 9 website? So after Debian 9 upgrade and changing the Template VM of the VMs, I can follow the rest of the steps on the website, right? Yeah, its pretty straightforward in that you upgrade to Debian 9 (best to do this in a clone of Debian 8 but not absolutely required). then create a netVM (you can call it sys-net2 or similar) and add your network devices to the Devices tab in the VM settings. If you switch the old sys-net over to Debian 9 and use that, the settings from the older Network Manager could cause problems. You don't have to move the other VMs over to Debian, and you will find that the Debian template comes with fewer apps pre-installed. This can cause frustration if you expect all the usual apps to be there; menu items will disappear. One way to address this is to use 'sudo tasksel' after the upgrade completes; selecting a Gnome desktop will bring in most of the usual apps. -- Chris Laprise, tas...@openmailbox.org https://twitter.com/ttaskett PGP: BEE2 20C5 356E 764A 73EB 4AB3 1DC4 D106 F07F 1886 -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "qubes-users" group. Hi. I'm not very glad w/ defaults provided in Qubes OS. Are there any chances the situation 'll get fixed? Details: I've no real trust to https - this is reputation scheme. Ooops - my work VM has now no firewall VM attached. This is bad default - isn't it? Why should I go via tor w/ work VM even when sitting in the office? [qubes-users] Re: Attach cd-rom block device to Fedora Template VM (where does it show up?)
Thanks, Andrew, I'm in business now. The lsblk showed a new entry (xvdi) when the cd-rom was attached, but showed no mount point. I didn't realize I needed to manually enter a command to mount it because I haven't had to do that with USB hard drives, but I guess this should have been obvious. Anyway, in case anyone else has the question in the future and finds this thread, here's what you do to get a cd or dvd-rom to show up: 1. In a command prompt for the VM you wish to attach to, (before attaching the device), run 'lsblk' to list your block devices. 2. In the Qubes VM Manager, right-click on the vm you wish to attach to, select attach block devices, and pick your drive. 3. run the 'lsblk' command again and see what new device has appeared. 4. run the following command, substituting your device name for xvdi: sudo mount -t iso9660 -o ro /dev/xvdi /mnt/removable/ Thanks again, Greg On Monday, July 3, 2017 at 11:57:08 AM UTC-4, Andrew Morgan wrote: > On 07/02/2017 07:10 PM, Greg Strong wrote: > > Hello, > > > > I think I'm doing something pretty basic and coming up empty. Re: [qubes-users] sys-whonix problem
Solved. It seems a qubes VM manager bug to sometimes display wrong kernel information. Could check & set values correct in the command line. I think more & more that I shuold abolish the qubes VM manager, and do everything the old way on the dom0 console :)Bernhard On 07/04/2017 10:19 AM, haaber wrote: > Hello, after a bad power-loss yesterday (on qubes 3.2) my sys-whonix > won't start any more. > > [me@dom0 ~]$ qvm-start Anon-whonix > --> Starting NetVM sys-whonix... > ERROR: VM kernel does not exist: /var/lib/qubes/vm-kernels/4.4.55-11/vmlinuz > > I am confused by this message, since in qubes manager sys-whonix and > Anon-whonix VM are set up to use 4.4.67-13 kernel .. can someone help > me please?? > > Bernhard > -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "qubes-users" group. [qubes-users] "No such file or directory" when restoring backup
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE- Hash: SHA512 I'm trying to restore a VM backup (created with Qubes 3.0, restoring to Qubes 3.2), and I'm getting this error: ERROR: [Errno 2] No such file or directory: u'/var/tmp/restore_yoGbl2/vm11' (I transcribed the message from dom0 by hand, hopefully I didn't make any typos.)
