[qubes-users] When transferring file between Qubes, MD5 changes.

2017-11-15 Thread vegetarianstoat
I am transferring a windows ISO file between qubes.. however, the file's MD5
sum changes every time I complete the transfer.

Why might this be so?

[qubes-users] Baffled About Passphrases

2017-11-15 Thread Ron Allen Smith

Hi,

I'm new to Qubes/Linux and would like to know how to change/add/remove
passphrases applied to the USB I installed Qubes 3.2 on. I looked around
at Qubes FAQs and elsewhere, which was helpful, but not giving a
step-by-step of what to do.

[user@untrusted ~]$ lsblk
NAME MAJ:MIN RM SIZE RO TYPE MOUNTPOINT
xvdc 202:32 1 11.5G 0 disk
├─xvdc2202:34 1 10.5G 0 part

xvda 202:01 10G 1 disk
└─dmroot 253:00 10G 0 dm /
xvdd 202:48 1 500M 1 disk
/usr/lib/modules/4.9.56-21.pvops.qubes.x86_64

xvdb 202:16 12G 0 disk /rw

Although I selected default encryption during the Qubes install, I can't
determine whether or not enryption is actually set.

I also looked at 'man cryptsetup', but unsure of how to use it, or even
if I should use it.

Can anyone set me on the right path?

[qubes-users] Local network access when using ProxyVM as VPN gateway using iptables and CLI scripts?

2017-11-15 Thread Michael Siepmann
I've followed the instructions to "Set up a ProxyVM as a VPN gateway
using iptables and CLI scripts" at https://www.qubes-os.org/doc/vpn/ and
it's working well so far but I need to be able to access my local
network 192.168.x.x. That worked when I was connecting to the VPN with
Network Manager in my NetVM. Is there a way to configure that when using
a ProxyVM as a VPN gateway? I'm guessing I need to do something in
/rw/config/qubes-firewall-user-script in my VPN ProxyVM to configure
iptables to allow bypassing the VPN for 192.168.x.x but I'm not sure how
to do that. Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Best regards,

Michael Siepmann

To follow up to this, I'm also trying to upgrade from Fedora 25 to 26,
but on Qubes R3.2.

Using:
`sudo dnf --releasever=26 --setopt=cachedir=/mnt/removeable distro-sync
--allowerasing --best --enablerepo=qubes*current-testing`

Everything looks good besides the Removing section:

what about the old kernels? Do they matter at all since kernels are

Re: [qubes-users] Re: "Qubes" BOOT option DISAPPEARD in my Bios (thus I can't boot Qubes!), HOW TO BRING IT BACK?

2017-11-15 Thread dokwoep . dow3ok3okf

Quoting Lorenzo Guerra :

Hi,
I had the same problem once in the past: everything was still on HD,
but the boot option disappeared in theBIOS. For what is worth, I
solved this way. My BIOS allows to manually add a boot option by
selecting an EFI file. I did it by selecting "\EFI\qubes\xen.efi". I
don't know if this works on your computer and for your system, though.

Wish you good luck,

L. G.

Thank you Lorenzo Guerra, that is exactly my case indeed.
Unfortunately I cannot do the same, but thanks to you I found out what
was missing exactly.
Basically the 500mb partition in the HD which contains all the boot
files, has been corrupted (probably when I installed the second Qubes
OS in an external HD using the same computer), in fact the "efi"
directory was empty.

Since I have no clue on how to solve such a problem, I will do my best
to get back my VMs in the internal HDD by trying to copy the
directories under /var/lib/qubes even though they size from 2x to 4x
times more than the actual size due to a Qubes "bug" (how can
/var/lib/qubes size 1.5 TB when my HDD is only 1 TB ? - now you know
what I mean by "bug" qubes developers!).

Re: [qubes-users] Re: "Qubes" BOOT option DISAPPEARD in my Bios (thus I can't boot Qubes!), HOW TO BRING IT BACK?

2017-11-15 Thread dokwoep . dow3ok3okf
Of course not, I did not change any boot setting at all! that is
recipe for disaster!
I have long time ago mastered those settings in my computer, and I can
assure they are not a concern, plus they are currently optimized to
boot any os of my choice.

The "Qubes" boot option I once had disappeared. Though my internal HDD
is still listed as an option, if I try to boot selecting the internal
HDD (since the "Qubes" option is gone) it doesn't boot, it goes to
black screen and then back to the bios like if it didn't find anything
bootable.

HOW CAN I BRING THE "Qubes" boot option back ?! I did some
backups some time ago but not of everything, I don't wanna lose the
missing VMs :(

Quoting pandakaas...@gmail.com:

Thank you but I obviously already know that, the problem is I can't

qubes os is broken, that's why I have asked how can I check those
settings VIA TERMINAL, thus accessing the harddisk data and checking
the qubes files.. btw in case it was not clear: I just need to see
what values I had set for my mouse (speed, etc), I do not need to
change it, just check it out.
