I managed to add them to my template (which I am think might be bad op/sec juju) but even then, when a new addon comes out the browser updates so I have to update the addon manually in the template which is a PITA that is quickly becoming not worth it. Yeah, that's the downside of dispVMs. My workflow for updating my profile is: 1- every now and then I start a dedicated appVM where my "master" firefox profile/folder lives, in order to update addons, tweak prefs, ... 2- I then copy the folder to the dispVM's *dvm* template (not the dvm template's template). I assume you're on R4.0 - IIRC for R3.2 you'd have to update the template itself. It seems to be pretty much what you did though. It doesn't take too much time but then I update my profile every month or so - maybe your addons require more frequent updates. You could try to automatize the process with a script in dom0 that would start the VMs, `qvm-run` commands, copy files, ... Another way would be to skip updating the dvm template (step 2 above) and instead copy the updated profile to one of your VMs that is always started (or to dom0, provided you don't open/read any of these files). You could then write a qubes extension [1] that automatically sync the dispVM profile with the "master" one when a dispVM starts. [qubes-users] Additional USB controllers for a laptop expresscard to PCI-slots
What do you think, will something like this be able to add more usb controllers to a laptop? https://www.integrate-computer.de/Exsys-EX-1015-ExpressCard-Bus-to-4-x-PCI-Slot-compact-Expansion-Box This is reported to be linux compatible. The idea is to add a USB keyboard to a laptop using a PCI USB controller, perhaps using another slot for an audio card or whatever. Having a separate keyboard will also allow to add an external monitor, making home use more comfortable for eye strain now that e-ink monitors are getting available. But may Qubes architecture be able to assign these additional cards to specific VMs even if they are connected by an Expresscard? -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "qubes-users" group. [qubes-users] How to correctly install AMD graphic driver on Qubes?
Is there a guide (step by step, the more detailed the better) similar to the Nvidia driver installation guide found in Qubes user documentation for AMD graphic driver installation? Is there someone who could help me with tips and info (easy, specific, understandable to a newbie) on how to go about installing AMD GPU driver? For the sake of argument, I choose to trust AMD’s driver to be safe in order to make use of the GPU. The driver should be installed in dom0 (Nvidia guide explains), I attempted at downloading the AMD driver tar.xz file and move it from my VM to dom0 (with the idea of unpacking and do normal install by following the guide on AMD homepage) with the command described in Qubes documentation; “Copy from (and to) dom0”. Here I face the first problem; how to get the syntax correctly? I’m unsuccessful in doing so. What am I doing wrong with the syntax and what other considerations/approaches/preparations should I make in order to get the file to dom0? If at all this is the right way to do it. I just bought : 2x CPU AMD-OPTERON-16-Core-6276 ~80 bucks :)) ASUS KGPE-D16 - 170 bucks will she make noise at home? I have a passive cooling of the house, radiators - is it good idea? Is it hard to attach a video card to hvm? I am installing it myself at home, I work in a data center, and for example I was surprised when I found out that the motherboard Supermicro has the same spi chipsets (winbond, micron, macronix) how much memory is needed for the first time? 32-64gb?
