I switched the template for the aapvm i wasnt able to start up and viola! it opened up, then i tried to make a new appvm based on the deb10 template and, no go, nothing would start? what about a template would cause an appvm not to start? -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "qubes-users" group. [qubes-users] laptop Intel HD Graphics heatsink fan: SOLVED
hello list, i was trying to get qubes to work on a new laptop with an intel hd graphics gpu and observed the following behavior i had never encountered previously: - install succeeded, but once i started running several appvms and restoring from a backup the heatsink fan was blowing a lot of hot air. neither dom0 nor the appvms were using any cpu (all at 0% or close), so i inferred that the heat was coming from the gpu. after attempting several fixes, e.g. updating dom0 to use the 5.6 kernel and setting several kernel options, i did the following: - in dom0 do 'journalctl | grep drm | less' and see a log '[drm] Reducing the compressed framebuffer size. This may lead to less power saving than a non-reduced size. Try to increase stolen memory size if available in BIOS.' i rebooted the machine, went into the bios, and adjusted the memory for the integrated gpu upwards from its default setting. now the machine is working as expected - no unusual heatsink activity. just in case adjusting the memory used by the gpu in the laptop bios doesn't work by itself (i haven't tested this), the following may be useful: - in dom0 'sudo qubes-dom0-update kernel-latest' to install the latest stable 5.x kernel. you can also use --enablerepo=qubes-dom0-unstable - [assumes uefi boot] in dom0 edit /boot/efi/EFI/qubes/xen.cfg kernel options to add i915.enable_fbc=0 and i915.enable_psr=0 to disable framebuffer compression and panel self refresh i hope this can help someone else and save them some time that i lost. regards jake -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "qubes-users" group. I had similar problems with a recent System76 Darter Pro installation (search this mailing list for "Guide to installing Qubes on System76 Darter Pro"). The wifi card that comes installed in a Darter Pro (Intel Wireless-AC 9560) has compatibility problems with Xen+Qubes. I replaced it with a similar model (Intel Wireless-AC 9260) which worked fine. You may have the same model wireless card in your Lemur Pro. First time Qubes user here, setting up a laptop not listed under HCL (yet). https://tech-docs.system76.com/models/lemp9/README.html Installation completed fine, and I used a usb ethernet adapter to upgrade to kernel-latest. [qubes-users] Fedora vendor supported on future Lenovo laptops
Probably more people saw this. I guess this means that future Lenovo laptops will be better compatible with Qubes if dom0 remains to be Fedora? From fedoramagazine.org: Now available: Fedora on Lenovo laptops! - Fedora Magazine 3-4 minutes Fedora and Lenovo! We’ve been teasing this for a while, but today it’s finally trueFedora Workstation is now available preinstalled on the Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 8, ThinkPad P53, and ThinkPad P1 Gen 2 laptops. The ThinkPad X1 Carbon is available today for direct consumer purchase from Lenovo’s online store. The Lenovo ThinkPad P1 Gen 2 and ThinkPad P53 will be available next week via the “Contact Us” icon on Lenovo.com. What’s more, the successor models are in the works for pre-load and online ordering as well! Lenovo has been a great partner in bringing this to market. Like the Fedora community, they are operating on an “upstream first” model. That’s part of why the only thing you’ll see on the laptop that doesn’t come from an official Fedora repository is a set of PDFs providing documentation and legal notices. Lenovo engineers have been contributing to the Linux kernel, including a patch to enable the “lap mode” sensor, which is already accepted. They have also worked with their vendors to improve Linux support in devices like the fingerprint scanner. Of course, you already know that open source is about more than just the technology; the community is what makes it great. Lenovo is a member of Fedora and other communities. In addition to participating in the usual Fedora places (like the devel mailing list), they also were a gold-level sponsor of our Nest With Fedora conference. And they have a dedicated Fedora section on their community forum. Mark Pearson, Senior Linux Developer said “doing open source the right way is important to us” at his Nest With Fedora Q session. This will be a global program, but it will take some time to roll out country-by-country. If it doesn’t appear on the website in your country, call the local sales number for your country to place a phone order. I’m excited to have Lenovo offer Fedora Workstation as a supported choice on their laptops. This is a great opportunity to grow our community. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "qubes-users" group. [qubes-users] networkmanager / keyring
Hello, a long time ago I did set a pwd for the keyring in sys-net. By too little use, I forgot it. So now I can no longer register new networks, which means at every laptop-lid open.close I have to enter it again, and again. Editing /etc/Networkmanager/system-connections/wireless-name files by hand is ignored, even if I put there pwd=whatever Is there a way to solve this (either by destroy keyring, or make NetworkManager read its own config files??)
