I figured out why sys-whonix wasn't working; because I never completed the
connection wizard that pops up at every boot. I usually don't use
whonix/tor to connect to the internet so I just never completed the
prompts.
I did however already update dom0 as I said using the sys-firewall

I had been looking for years for a new Qubes desktop system but nothing
that was still available ever showed up on the HCL. My old desktop died
last week so I had no alternative but to take a chance on something. While
the Dell XPS 8930 is no longer in production it is still available through
I installed R4.0.4 RC1 on a new machine and restored my VM's from a backup.
Somewhere along the way, I started getting "cannot execute qubesdb-daemon"
errors and could not start some VM's that I had not yet run since the
restore process.
