I would like to use the note editor to place midi in reaper.

well, why not use reaper's step recording from reaper or record midi
just inside reaper?
pairing both is sort of .. redundant, unless you configure qws to be
an external editor.

That would be because QWS does a far better job of dealing with MIDI. It's not
perfect, especially in the editors, (Note, Control, and Sysex) but it's better
than Reaper does, and it's a more logical workflow, so someone with some
facility with QWS can get things done a lot faster.

Does qws work as a exsternal editor?

I might have reaper be the vst host for qws and then export the midi
right into reaper.

back to the same argument i posted a few weeks back. its true that qws
makes editing easier, but not necessarily better at working with midi
(especially regarding regular, standard midi markers and when you have
a few bars of a time change to odd time signatures like 5/8), nor does
it allow you to
I set the path to qws.exe as my editor and its not opening the midi
items its only open the piano roll. Maybe it has to be a media item I
will try that.

you have to set the path to qws in the third edit box . in the first
one you would type .mid, the second one you leave blank and the third
one you set the path to qws. you can then confirm the setting by
examining the list view that appears after you press add, or OK.
