Re: QWS List ports problem revisited
Hi Joe, Sorry for the delay responding to your questions. First, about opening MIDI ports: QWS uses the standard Windows functions to open the MIDI devices. Windows is reporting an error when QWS tries opening your keyboard port. Unfortunately, there is very little that can be done by QWS. Regarding the save location of files: if you try and save to the installation directory of QWS, Windows is likely to "virtualise" the folder. This is because normally you aren't supposed to write to c:\program files (x86). So instead, Windows creates an equivalent folder from your Windows profile folder, under c:\users\\... (as you say, buried deep). Your best option is to make sure you know where you store all your files, make sure that you choose a folder of your choice, not the computer's choice. I hope this helps and sorry I cannot give you a good answer about the MIDI port problem. God bless, James. One more thing that might help: try using a different USB port on your computer to connect your keyboard. Strangely enough, sometimes that’ll fix the issue. God bless! Re: QWS List ports problem revisited
Joe, despite appearances to the contrary, this is not really a qws issue, in that many folks who use win 10 but not qws experience this. Unfortunately, finding the solution can be a very complex process. I've got my 2 grandkids livin w/me right now, I hardly have time to wee (forget shut-eye), much less troubleshoot something as complex as this, but perhaps the following link will help. https://www.sweetwater.com/sweetcare/articles/resolving-midi-device-issues-on-pc-and-mac/ You haven't provided much info, ie, what keyboard you're using, how it connects to the pc, etc, all of which would perhaps help narrow down the many possible solutions. I wish I were in a position to help further, but I'm not. Good luck w/this. You will need someone well versed in Win10 & hardware/software interactions, I'm afraid, because I truly suspect that this has little or nothing to do w/qws per se. 1 of the 1st things I'd try is to unplug your keyboard, go to control panel > device manager. Hit alt v, then w, to view hidden devices, & then uninstall all devices having to do w/midi. Restart the machine, reconnect the keyboard, & see if the situation changes. Beyond that, as I said, the situation becomes really dicey, & I'm not in a position to go further w/it, unfortunately. This isn't a QWS problem, as you've probably figured out after the reinstall. It's a driver problem, so check out what's going on with your MIDI driver. Hmmm, how strange. What kind of keyboard do you have? If it’s one that requires you to install the driver, it could be that your driver is corrupt and it needs to be reinstalled. I have to believe that the software is corrupt. I will install it again. My question is what happens to my songs which are buried many layers deep. It will be difficult to replace them even though they are backed up. How is it that my files end up in that remote location rather than in the main QWS folder? I truly look forward to your thoughtsand ideas. Thank you for reading this. Re: QWS List ports problem revisited
You can choose where you want to save your files when the Save as dialogue comes up the first time you save a new file. Personally, I don’t keep my files in the QWS folder, but in a different directory within my documents folder. This way, if something goes wrong and I have to uninstall QWS, My Files won’t get deleted, and I can resume work on them when I reinstall it. God bless!
