I noticed that optimize in R 2.4.0 on Windows XP does not seem to work
if I use "m" as an argument in my function for example:
> optimize(function(x,m) x^m,interval=c(0,1),m=2)

I have seen a number of e mails on this topic but I have not seen a
general solution to date. I have Fortran and C source codes and they
have been compiled successfully using:
R CMD build mypackage
And
R CMD install mypackage
Without error messages.
