On Debian/Ubuntu, system wide environment variables and options are
set in respectively /etc/R/Renviron.site and /etc/R/Rprofile.site.
These files are automatically created when r-base is installed, and do
not get overwritten during an upgrade.
On Fedora, there is no /etc/R directory. What is the
My CMD check server started failing after upgrading to Fedora 21:

This typically indicates Rd problems.

The problem was easily resolved by installing texlive-upquote. Perhaps

As pointed out, this is no longer an issue in R 3.1.2, which is in all
Fedora branches (except 21, where it is landing later today, hopefully).
Thank you. Another missing dependency pops up when running CMD check:

Installed R-devel 3.2.3 on a vanilla F23 box. Installing any package
with C code fails with:
gcc: error: /usr/lib/rpm/redhat/redhat-hardened-cc1: No such file or directory
This parameter originates from R's CFLAGS:
$ R CMD config CFLAGS

I used:
yum install /usr/lib/rpm/redhat/redhat-hardened-cc1
And that did the job, however it seems to me this should be a formal
dependency of the R-base rpm package.

I think R from EPEL 8 is missing a dependency on glibc-langpack-en or
similar. Testing with the new CentOS 8 docker image:
docker run -it centos:8 bash
And then in docker:
yum install epel-release
yum config-manager --set-enabled PowerTools
yum install R-devel
Installation succeeds
Not sure if this is a bug in the F34 docker image or R rpm. I would
like to test some things in F34 so I tried:
docker run -it fedora:34
And then in docker:
yum update
yum install R-core
But when I try to start R I get an error:
ERROR: R_HOME ('/usr/lib64/R') not found
