Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Radio reboots often, Out of Memory

2023-01-01 Thread icebreaker

Mine does also report 48% on the radio, while the top output is 50%, so
I guess that would go together. But then the device only shows the
memory usage from the jive process and not the complete memory.
I run my radio on mains too, sometimes on battery when I move it round.

just as a data point, my radio (which runs fine) shows 48% memory useage
at the above location. It is synched to a Touch and streaming when I'm
checking. Running latest community firmware and plugged in (not running
on battery).

I have stopped the sync and did a reboot. When it came back online, no
stream was running and the jive process uses about 42% memory. Another
12% goes to the jive_alsa process.
So half the memory is used even when it's in "standby / ready" mode.

And I guess it's not simple to remove that. I just wonder what happens
when does url are not available anymore. I mean I have seen it now, but
that would make it not fun anymore to use it.
I don't think mine reboots so often, but now I will keep an eye on that
uptime.

Just after a reboot, when it comes back on and starts playing again, I
have seen up to 20% free memory left. But I need to say, that my players
are all synced. Not sure that makes a difference.

Also I thought, that everything would come from the server, which is not
true as I figured out now. After disable the firewall rule, the artwork
is back on the screen. That would tell me, it comes from the internet
direct and not from the server.

The radio, touch and controller reset/reboot/crash every 24 days. It's
a know issue and discussed at length in various threads on the forum,
unfortunately there's no simple fix.

Calling home is baked into the firmware it's not something that was
added to the community firmware.

This was my own fault, as I had my firewall settings really strong. I
have changed it now and those messages are gone. Hopefully that will
help it. At least, the free memory is around 15% now, instead of being

Do you know, why it's important to connect "home"? Because I think I had

If you can fix the issue with the radio failing to connect to
mysqueezebox.com that could alleviate the out of memory issue.

{mysqueezebox.com}: _handshake error: connection refused

These messages are not normal and squeezeplay is spinning trying to
connect every 4-5 seconds.

There is likely something unique to your setup that is causing the OOM.

I'm on communitiy firmware already and have turned aac off.
The screensaver I didn't use but have still deactivated it on the
server.

Even after the change of aac, it keeps crashing.

Would it be possible to add a swap partition?

Image screensaver it not that plugin, which would show the picture on
the radio? I mean the picture you can see on the server (like covers or
logos). Because befor the bbc plugin, that has worked but now on only
shows black on the radio, while on the server it's still there.

No, the screensaver I was referring to would allow you to show a
slideshow of whatever pictures like a picture frame. Showing the playing

I have disabled the AAC now and also the screensaver plugin. Sofar it

You could try getting your server to do the AAC decoding rather than on
the radio, the high bitrate and sample rate BBC AAC streams are on the
edge of what the radio can keep up with, especially on the community
firmware.
On your server settings on Settings->Advanced->File Types set AAC to
disabled. That will force the server to do the decoding to flac. The
decoding has to be done somewhere, in this instance it is probably
better to do it on the server.

[SlimDevices: Radio] Radio reboots often, Out of Memory

2022-12-30 Thread icebreaker

Hi all

I had this problem befor, but not as much as now (more like once per
month). Since of the change in bbc radio, I have to use the bbc sounds
plugin, which works sofar fine.
But more often with this, the radio "freezes" and will reboot itself
then. After a bit diging around, I have found the crashlogs on the
device, which everytime the reasen is, out of memory.
Then I connected to the device and had a look with top command, which to
me shows a very high mem and cpu usage. Is that normal?
I have also tried the community firmware, but didn't get any better.
Factory reset also didn't bring anything.

Any idea of how to fix this?

top output (while runninig bbc sounds):
