One more polishing question: how do you get the cassette and cranks so
clean (especially in the deep recesses of the nooks and crannies)? The
shine of the drivetrain and hubs is impressive.
When are you publishing your photo book? :-)

I'm curious about all those wide brimmed hats for riding. I just has some

normal brim blocks my sight while riding. The 4 cms are good, but 3 cm would

Riv (grant?) mentions it in their (his?) latest Knothole post, in

One more remark: Any problem I've had with brakes has been, largely, in the
rear. But the new non-spiral brake cable (it looks like a beefier indexing
deraileur cable) is highly un-compressible (that's an awkward phrasing!) and
makes a huge difference for the formerly mushy rear mechanical disk on

I already have a VO porteur rack, and love it. I'm still looking for
the perfect bag. What I first wanted was one of the Hershberger
baskets that sat on the porteur, but those aren't being made any
longer. I also considered a Zugster porteur bag, but their waiting
list is ridiculously long.
I love my MAFACs, personally, they are great brakes, but the Dia Compe/
Weinmanns work just as well. The finish on the Dia Compes is superior
in many cases, IMHO. They are also around in massive piles at used
bike shops (around here anyway). Braking is very good, in my opinion,
