The three versions of the Sam Houston seem to cover the same territory as the Atlantis/Hillborne, Rambouillet and Legolas. The LaSalle Randonneur has the same origins as a VO, Tournesol or Boulder randonneuse, and the city bikes are rooted in very traditional designs. It's pretty hard to find a

I am sure any frame builder who builds a bike like this is at least familiar with Rivendell. I would take it as a compliment. Just ten years ago there were very few steel bikes out there and almost none with lugs. I think Grant does not get the credit he is due for sticking with steel. Now

I saw that one at the Texas Custom Bicycle Show in Austin a couple of weeks ago. Nice bike. I doubt he's trying to imitate the Hillborne but maybe there is a nod to Riv there. Regardless, I like his using the names of a Texas historical figure and not surprised an Austin framebuilder would.

I've owned one of the SKS Rennkompressor floorpumps for a number of years. I replaced the original pump head after the rubber washer in the head croaked (it no longer effectively provided a leak-proof seal). I replaced the head with a good ole Silca brass head, it's worked fine since. Jim On
