Loved the video. I haven't retrieved bike parts from a dump yet, but a great
idea. The gentleman creates the tool, to make the part, to fit on the car.
Awesome!

I have a Champion Flyer that developed a ridge in the center as it was
breaking in that became uncomfortable. I ended up cobbling together a
press using some plywood pieces and a few C-clamps to flatten it back
down. It involved a layer of cloth to prevent any abrasion, then the

I notice Anne's Dad put reflective tape ovals on the rims. I assume this is so
oncoming drivers will see them reflect in their headlights?
If this works I may do it on my bike.
Anyone know if it reflects well this way?
BTW, that bike is beautiful. I wonder why they ever stopped making it. Or is
I have similar reflectors on my rando bikes. They're highly visible at night,

You can still get the Glorius or Wilbury-- call RBW. It's a sold as a
custom, like the Bombadil. From what I understand (which isn't much), the
lugs are super extravagant, beautiful, and expensive to braze.

I read about this reflectoring idea on Sheldon's site a while back. Don't
recall if it was a Sheldon idea or a Jobst Brandt idea, but it sounds like
it meets all the ideal criteria for reflectors - as much surface area as
you want, motion, etc. As most rims are bit convex in cross section (or a

Your resurrection of this thread is timely, in a way. This past weekend I
took the Hunqapillar on an overnight trip from Seattle to Port Townsend. My
route was a conscious choice of more climbing for less traffic, so I became
pretty intimate with how it climbs, and how I climb, too. I
RBW still sells strips of 3M reflective tape, which can be snipped and
shaped for a variety of surfaces, to increase visibility in the path of
oncoming headlights. I put some on my Dyad rims, and like that it can be
seen from front/rear as well as from the sides.
Turns out I don't need a new rear derailler after all, I need a new shifter.
Shimano bar end is only shifting 6-7 cogs, even in friction.
LBS says they checked the sqaure thingy and confirmed that it is installed
right.
Apparantly I need a new shifter.
Anybody try Sun Race friction thumbies on

Great news for tall folks.
I've been corresponding with Keven at RBW about ordering a 64cm Atlantis frame.
Although the Atlantis info on the RBW website makes it appear that the 64cm

I have, it works great on an Alba. Maybe put a piece of bar tape under
the clamp to prevent sliding. Or maybe I just didn't get the clamp tight
enough.

The prior owner of my 2004 Rambouillet drilled out and tapped a 10/32

cleaner and easier. Works great!

I used the cheapie Sun Race thumbies on my wife's initial Yves Gomez build,

deal killer was that the frictiony part could not be tightened enough to
hold the front der in place, and I was not using an unusually strong
I may be naive, but just can't see how a *stick* could do such damage. I
haven't had the displeasure, but imagine it going something like... stick

I won't lie- even the small chance of this happening has me gulping. I wonder
if Honjo, VO, Gran Bois or others have looked into making QR connections ala
SKS for metal fenders?

I think those companies would be aware of QR connections on fenders but
most likely ruled them out on style issues. You are sacrificing some safety
for style points, its all about your choice. I ride VO fenders but with

It can. It happened to me. Stick followed the tire into the fender. Fender
collapsed into fork crown. Immediate endo. Landed on head.
Helmets definitely help once in a while.
Both blades deformed. Top and down tube deformed. Major pain in rear.
Do not ride fenders without release
Jan Heine, who advocates aluminum fenders, claims that well mounted Honjos,

First and mainly, glad the rider will be OK. Second, I'm having a hard
time re-creating the dread happening here. How was the fender attached to
the crown that would let it rotate forward like that? What I've read from
more experienced riders (e.g. Jan Heine) is that metal fenders don't

A couple days ago I noticed that I couldn't hit the 2 largest cogs. The LBS
put the Albas on for me in May. I don't usually use those gears so it may
very well have happened then. I suspected the RD because it came a bit bent
and had to be bent back to shift properly when it was installed.

it is so simply achieved.
