Putting the shifters toward the middle of the bars leaves the whole bar
through the front curve available for hand positions. Having the shifters
immediately in front of the brake levers really inter fears with that.
Patrick, that is a nice setup! I may have to give that a try after I play
around with the Alba's on my Atlantis for a little while.

with you along for a ride around the neighborhood to figure it out what one

the weak points in your setup, be it saddle position, bar tilt, shifter
location, etc. I took several long rides to dial in the shifters before I

the end . I tried mtb levers at first, and it just seemed awkward to me
and a waste of hand space. The Bar end levers to me are a marriage made in

Garth, I'd never really considered bar end brake levers with Alba's... Your
description is compelling though! Between the brake and shifter locations
you describe you really preserve the max amount of the bar for hand

there is no one tire to rule them all but for most riding the Hetres are
pretty plush, IMO. I had one flat in 1k miles of city riding, large piece

terrain. If you are sticking to asphalt and smooth to gravely roads they're

I started off with Col de la Vies on my Bleriot and thought they were fine
( a little soft and cushy), however, I switched to Marathons a few years
back and...gasp...I think they are faster and have a better ride. Plus side
is that they are bombproof. I just replaced the rear after 3.5 years
I was looking at the force field rumpkins for some rocky trails out here
but they would only be for a ride or two a month. What I really need is
two sets of wheels so I don't have to change the tires out depending on the
ride, oh and a support vehicle following me with a new bike when I need it,

What's almost as bad as having them get stuck on there is to have them
gradually work their way loose over time. Then, they rattle against the
rim making you wonder what the heck it is that's loose on your bike until
you stop and sniff around, realizing it's a just a valve nut.
