I'm with Deacon. I don't even have doors on the garage, let alone a lock.
In the past 25 years in this town the only thefts I've experienced have
been from bears and racoons. When I was commuting I left a U lock at the
hospital on the theory that as long as I didn't have the whimpiest
If you're a smaller person, the San Marcos can be a decent tourer. If
you're above 160 lbs or so, then I wouldn't recommend it for substantial
loads.
My girlfriend uses hers (51 cm 650b San Marcos 1st gen) as a tourer with
front and rear racks. The front rack (Campee Classic 20F) needed clamps
Awesome pics, Manny... especially to ride with your parents... what an

Do you have photos of this? I'm having trouble visualizing it. If you're
talking about *reach* adjustment for the lever, I'm not sure that's
possible with the Diacompe levers; but if you mean cable adjustment, the

Can anyone compare the security of the VO ones to the Pitlocks? My
impression from reading about both is that the Pitlocks are pretty much
foolproof, while the VO's are a much simpler design and could be loosened
with, say, vise grips.
I'm thinking of a set of secure skewers myself, and would
i guess while we are talking about it, how does the pitlock seatpost thing
work with a rivendell seatpost binder, and more importantly, does it work
without any modifications? im having a hard time visualizing how it all

Depending on what size you need the SM is really 2 different bikes. The 650b
(47-57cm) is more of a nimble sport touring bike, while the 700c version is
quite a bit beefier and made to take more weight. Basically a Sam with shorter
reach brakes.

Hello I am having this frame made as a medium trail Rando/commuter/all

I'd like to buy a Nitto 27F front rack. I could buy it from the Soma Store
for $310:

I could order it from my LBS because they'd get it from Merry Sales. In

Aw, thank you guys.
I'm a bit late to the thread because I was on vacation last week, followed
immediately by a family emergency. I'm back now, though.
The shipping department is just Robert and I, and the bike packers are
typically Will and Sean. Dave held down the shipping department fort
