2.1" Smart Sams seem like a smart winter tire choice. Knobby, but not extremely so. Wide enough to grip, tall enough to roll over snowy bumps. I run fenders over light-knobby tires like Bontrager CX0 (on my cross bike) and Schwalbe Thunder Burt (on my KOM). The fenders do seem to trap twigs
