David, I realize Compass isn't for everyone, but what has you scanning about? As Reed mentions, there are decent tires at lower price points, but for what you're describing Compass' offerings are quintessential. The main trick with them (and it's not much of one) is to dial in the pressure.

You can have the best of both worlds and get a QR axle for your Phil hub. That's what I have (F and R) on my '99 Joe Starck. It does make gear shifting a wee bit easier, particularly (for me) in adjusting chain tension, but as the other Patrick said, using a wrench isn't hard either. And since
