Eric,
I'm interested in a set of the XTR cranks in 170mm. Whichever is the nicest
ones you have left. If you have the inner spacers that would be great. I
can probably dig up some bolts.

Yeah, I decided to scrap the drop bar idea for the cheviot. I’m sure it would
have been too big. I’ll keep it as is and see if I use it. Actually, I’ve
decided to splurge and am getting a custom Speedvagen!

Thanks to everyone for the quick and helpful replies. You’ve given me quite a

Just beware the Cheviot is for upright bars and therefore has a longer top
tube. For drops you may want a shorter top tube. Let us know what you get. I
have a small Soma Grand Rand frame if that looks interesting.

Frankly, the joy of riding is in not putting any thought into it at all,
otherwise you'e just "going through the motions" like a computer, a
machine. Lifeless. Intuition, for lack of a better word, is way more

Check out Soma Cazaderos. I run them on my Clem from the path to the trail.

You didn’t mention what bike/wheel size you’re using, and more than likely
you’re looking for something wider, but I second the Soma Cazaderos (650b x

amount of bite off-road and on singletrack, and rolls really

I absolutely love Schwalbe Thunderburts if your bike will fit them. Soma's
cazaderos also give nice traction with minimal drag. I leave the caz on my
Atlantis year round.

Your Kendas will be find for most easy trails, but as soon as you get into much
up/down rock/root and wet, they slip rather than grip well. Knobbies matter,
but moreso a grippy rubber matters, and Schwalbe or Rene Herse have that nailed
over others (including Maxxis).
With abandon,

Matthew, it all depends on what you're riding here. I'd recommend learning on
"easy" singletrack if you're hitting trails. There is a big difference between
singletrack on the front range and foothills vs into the mountains. Where are
you going and what type of riding will you be doing? I live
Another vote for those mentioned already: Back Alley, Free Range, and

The BMC Road + looks great! Thanks for that.
That comparison site you sent is really helpful, Jonathan. Really cool site. I
wish it showed the Hilsen in a 46. I also compared my cheviot to the roadini
and the cheviot is way longer, so maybe a roadini is something to consider.
Sean, the

I think that's a great idea. I myself have started buying Swiss Tech button

Looks awesome! New stems are in the works. Faceplate braze ons are about
to go to a CNC machinist. High drop bars are the jam!

We can help do the calc's for the handlebar set up (aka handlebar XY
coordinates) if you want. A (w)Right 0mm stem or 30mm would be a great set
up with a short reach, wide n stiff bar. (our 30mm stems are heading back
into production shortly, we have a really solid builder in new england

Can you tell us which chains those might be? ...at least in your experience?

That's an amazing looking bike jandrews! What's the fender/tire combo?

I'm travelling to Colorado in a couple of weeks, and think I may need
something more than the stock Kendas that have, so far, been perfectly
suitable for paved and gravel bike paths of Dallas.
But maybe I'm wrong? Although I've ridden bikes my whole life, putting
much thought into what and
Rivendell is out of stock on these. Let me know if you have a new or
lightly used one to sell.

I had the same thing happen when I was building mine last summer. Last
thing on the build was the chain and it didn't fit! But I had splurged for
a 1x10 set up so I didn't have any extra links in the parts bin (first
10-speed bike for me). I had to add several links from another chain, which
