I think I'd like something brighter. Thank you for responding.

Hey Brendon, and everyone else,
Do you still have this bike? I am curious to know how it is riding these
day. Did you ever run into any issues with the headset binding since the
steer tube is still bent? Turns out I am in the same predicament, and I am
trying to figure out what to do. My head
On my Ram, when I owned it, Open Pros + Ultegra 7 or 8-speed era hubs,
until I swapped in a SP in the front. Yes, very nice rims and the wheelset
did fit well with the Ram's design and intended use.

Thanks, all.
And let's hear it for Bill Lindsey everyone, Bill Lindsey. Thanks for
coming out to the Chuckle Hut this evening, have a safe drive home and
don't forget to tip your servers! We'll be back next Tuesday night.

I scored a set of Mavic Open Pro rims for free when buying another wheelset
on Craigslist. The guy just threw them in.
I built them up with some Ultegra 6500 hubs and it's a strong,
straightforward, and reasonable light wheel set that is adjustable and
rebuildable with standard tools.

I'll second the RC-540 use, in fact I have an early Riv wheelset with
these. The rear rim has a few issues but is still running strong. I
was able to secure a backup replacement for it from RBW but I haven't
yet needed to relace.

Yup back in the early oughts.

Yes, that should be the production year.
My Sam Hillborne tag says “Serial M14052003 date 4/8/15”. The frame was
produced in 2014, and I purchased it in April 2015.

I don't know much about the dating practices at RBW, but I did just call
them and Will told me that former Riv Employee Roman is getting married so
will no longer be dating. :)

I replied to Andrew when I meant to reply to the group. In Riv catalog
number 3 from summer 1997, they sold one rim, the MA2 for $34.

Thanks for the intel. Good ol' Sheldon Brown mentions using Araya RC-540's
on his Ram and wouldn't ya know it I found some in stock. Good to know.

Hey all! Thanks for all the advice so far. When I see Fender wobble my
brain goes more to a telecaster with a Bigsby... not my bike!
Here are responses to questions and comments.
At one point my rear wheel went out of true. I trued it and found one spoke
was totally slack. I though that would
What bar mounts exactly? The clamp on 31.8mm clamshell one? The little

Shaking fenders won't make your bike mishandle in corners, something else
is causing that. As others suggested, check tire pressure, wheel bearing
adjustment, fork bearing adjustment, or a wagging rear load (and even a
wagging rear load has to be pretty heavy to upset cornering).
As to SKS
Re: fender wobble - Have you checked all contact points to ensure
everything is still fastened?
Re: the other wobble - I'm no expert, but if it's a new sensation that you
hadn't felt before with that rack and bag + load, I'd check things like QR
skewers, headset, hub locknuts.

Christine,
No, I hadn't heard of Nua Bikes before, but they look very nice! Time to
buy a lottery ticket, I guess. I did a quick look at the Roure and Terra,
those look nice, but $7000 and up nice!

It may be a supply issue. I've never seen a Gomez live in person and I

I've gotten several interested responses, and I'm working with those
responders in the order they responded. It's looking quite likely that one
of these responders will end up with my Gomez. I haven't heard from
anybody wanting to sell me their 58cm Gomez. I guess we should all take

Andrew, I am not sure what Rivendell suggested but on my early Riv 700c
bikes I always used Mavic MA2 I believe.

Specifically, on the road models. I'm pretty sure my dad's Rambouillet has
some Araya's but I'm not sure what model. If anyone knows specifics, I'm
all ears.
Backstory: I have a wheelset with nice hubs I want to reuse but the rims
have lived a life already. I'm fine with A23's or something
Ooh Drew, your "one bike" sounds dreamy! Have you seen Nua Bikes? They make
bikes just as you describe. I've been lusting after one of those for so
long. They will even do a titanium fork if that's what you want. But like
you, waiting on the lottery before I can import one.

There are so many possible sources for *disheartening and weird *wobbles.
It seems to me that fenders are an unlikely culprit. My instinct is the
same as Joe's RE: the front rack.
It could also be something as simple as the tyre pressure getting a bit low
in the front wheel.
