I started friction shifting on 8 speed years ago and may have just got used
to it so it's really hard to say. Totally get the reasoning of not being

My road bike is friction 2x10 with Riv Silver 2s on barend pods, Campy
Veloce FD, Sugino 48/34 crank, Ultegra 11-30 cassette, and Ultegra 10 speed
chain. Wonderful shifting. After initial setup I had some occasional
slipping on the right shifter, requiring some snugging of the D-ring bolt

I have been friction shifting my 10 speed campy set up. 11-26 X 44-28 Crank is
Sugino.
Was not happy with performance , ghosts shifts up when spinning & down when
stomping the pedals.
Switched up to a 34-11 Shimano
Nothing else changed
Seems to be working really well.

It's a bit easier in this country with metric units. One of our cycling
friends who recently turned 80 celebrated his birthday with an 80km ride.

Blue Loctite kept a slightly undersized thinwall Syncos titanium post from
slipping (1" per 2 miles) on my 1999 Riv Road custom fixie gofast until I
replaced it with an Am Classic and then with a 7410 Dura Ace.

Good work Toshi!
I also skipped the 400, which would have been my first, and instead went
for a fast 200 yesterday on the Two-Rock Valley Ford route. It was my
first long ride on my new pink Roadeo, which was very fun

I have never snapped a binder bolt but FWIW when I had some slipping on my
Atlantis post, my LBS spun the inside of the seat tube with a flex hone
attachment on their drill and that helped a lot.

I have a bad habit of snapping the original binder bolt when making
adjustments for fit. I just keep a bunch spares around and stash one with
the tools/spare tube for when I ride.

Same thing happened on my brand new Platypus last year. Seatpost was
slipping and twisting and I overtightened it and snapped the bolt. Replaced
it with a spare from my bolts tray and it hasn't slipped in almost a year.
