The reason for the short stems on uprights is so I can sit bolt upright
because leaning forward causes the pain on the sweep back areas of the
upright bars.
I am fine leaning on the tops of the Albatrii and Boscos, just like drops
tops at any height. Its the swept back parts of bars

I have tried upright twice now. Once with Albas on an oversized Sam, and
once with Boscos on a 53 Bleriot, and Albas on a 55 Bleriot. I lasted a
month with the Albas/Sam. I have had the Bleriot Bosco-ed for the better
part of a year now.
Interesting you say 40 miles, Steve. It was at that distance that I noticed my
hands getting massively fatigued (Sam/Albas/Tallux max height/max aft). And
that was when riding solo at my own pace. Cork grips are hard as rocks. That's
when I found that out. But I don't think it was really the

to go riding and I go along with her. We have spent many years riding together.
Her average speed is about 10 miles an hour. So the term is just my playful way

My only concern for myself regarding trying fixed is hurting my knees by always
trying to pedal too hard. Hilly where I live. I see it is even hillier where
Patric lives. So how do you pedal up those long, tough hills without shooting
meniscus out the sides, especially at our middle age?

So I converted the Bleriot to upright so I could ride wifespeeds without hand
discomfort that comes with riding that slow for an entire ride on drops.
What I have found, in riding upright, is that the discomfort of the hands is

If you take a needle, and try to poke it through a wad of cotton, it can be
tough to pierce through the wad.
So, in a similar way, maybe the teeth of the dog couldn't pass through the

Absolutely nothing wrong with regular shoes for cycling. My Nike's got me thru
all my centuries and 200k with ease. I just posted the article because I saw
it as akin to Grant's articles about bike hacks, and it mentioned a minimal
shoe (for the minimalists here), and it also discussed
I find that bike lanes put one in prime dooring and detritus territory.
I also wonder if cyclists will be mandated off the roads once bike
infrastructure is in place.
I find that in my neck of the woods, cycling in the roads with cars is the most
fluid way to move about, except for rail trails
I felt the article was akin to Grant's articles about biking hacks, like
fixing up sagging Brooks saddles, etc.
Also, It mentioned a minimalist shoe that works well for biking, and
mentioned a type of pedal that a recent thread here discussed. So I thought
it would be of interest to some here.
For my blue 54 rambouillet:
700c. - I only have room for 28mm with fenders. For me this is the max for
safety with fenders. 32 was too tight for my comfort zone.
650b- I now have 650b x 42 Compass tires and fenders with massive clearance
all around on my 54 Rambouillet.
I got the LEMS Nine2Five shoes. Black.
Looks nicest in dress and best reviews I could find.

I think she bought them at a bike shop. They had a reflective strip on the
back. Clip in the front. The front was way longer than the back to cover
handlebars. But I just didn't like how it felt constrictive and heavy on the

I think fenders if anything would be dangerous for you Patrick. You ride
off-road a lot and there's a big chance of stuffs jamming your tires.
So I think without the fenders your bikes are at the mercy of the elements and
roadsalts in the winter.

This is a needle bearing IRD Rollerdrive just like Riv sells.
1. Loosen lock nut
2. tighten the nut under the spacers 1/8 turn
3. Tighten lock nut.
4. test for correct feel.
5. Readjust if.
