A little backstory about my knee. I'm 70, played football, basketball and
baseball when I was young. Shredded my MCL and tore my meniscus in 1976.
Had some old school surgery with the 10" incision. Started riding the bike
seriously for rehab afterward. All good till around 20 years ago.
The thread has taken such a turn. If I ever need a knee or two replaced I
have a whole Riv operating room now! ⚕️⚕️

Jay Lonner, you must be Dr. Jay Lonner! Anesthesiology, I presume? Very cool! It’s fun to discover who people are in their real lives. Ok, if I ever need bilateral knee replacements, sign me up for the One and Done with the Cadillac Option.LeahOn Nov 19, 2022, at 8:11 PM, Jay Lonner
Bilateral knee replacements are not uncommon, if patients are good candidates. “Good candidate” is a catchall term for lots of intangibles, such as patient motivation and expectations, medical comorbidities, at-home support systems, etc. I would imagine that most Rivendell enthusiasts have the
Rusty, no, I’ve never seen both at once. According to the internet it *can*
be done, but you need to have some specific things going your way to get
your surgeon to say yes.

My Father got both done within a few days of one another. It was pretty rough
but that was about 20 years ago.

Rusty, my partner, a retired nurse says yes that people have both knees
done at once. Good luck, Steve

I am bone on bone in both knees after five arthroscopic procedures. I
think I will try another round of "knee lube" injections to get me thru

I'm consulting with the doc about doing both knees at the same time. Leah,

As someone with osteoarthritis in both knees, I feel your pain.
No knee replacements yet. So far, a change in diet and rehab has delayed it.
Good luck. I hope you feel better soon.

I started working as an RN in the perioperative world this summer. I pre-op
patients for surgery and joints and spines are the bread and butter of my
department. We see a LOT. Often they come in to have their other side
(knee, hip) done and I always ask how the first joint replacement went.
A good friend has had both her knees repaired. She reports fairly brief
recovery periods, and she went to a successful randonneuring career afterwards.

Anyone here had a knee replaced? How long till you could ride again?
My right knee is killing me. I've put it off as long as I could. It's
almost time.
