wondered if it would help with the slipping. -- Forrest (Iowa City)

Yes, rubber was the first thing I tried.

I stupidly waited to order these, and now they're unavailable from The
Bike Biz. Velo Orange is no longer selling them either. Anyone know
another supplier?

I have no saddles with loops, and lots of saddlebags. But when I try
mounting the bags without loops, they twist. I've done it a lot but it
has never worked well.
It might just be me, but I have never understood the need to absolutely have
saddlebag loops. I have on many various bikes just

Not as cheap as Viva, but the QR feature is pretty handy:

For non-leather saddles, I've been happy with some of the Specialized
models. They come in different widths, which I've found to be helpful for
fitting. Also, Bontrager makes some decent inexpensive
Not much to take care of really with a brooks. Proofhide it really good
first, don't get it soaking wet (get some fenders if it doesn't have them)
all the time and Proofhide it once a year after that. I am sure he can
handle that, give that kid some credit! :-)

I think taking care of a Brooks is overrated. You can Obenauf it once,
hand him a saddle cover if he intends to ride in hard rain, and send him on
his way. Even if he never goops it or covers it again, it should last many
years/miles. Europeans have been abusing these things in all kinds of
I think I may have implied that I'm replacing a Brooks saddle with
something else. No, no, Erik kept his saddle (as he should). The bike
has no saddle right now.

No, I didn't think you already had one..just responding to the need for a
saddle with bag loops, but being shy about going with a Brooks for the
young man. Aside from being comfortable and saddlebag-able, they look
wicked cool. My advice is to find him a used one and see how he does with
it.
