I've been using Schwalbe Mondials (40s) with good success. My commute is half
city streets, half hard pack gravel. They are similar to the SOMAs and the old
Marathon XRs. Treads are pretty deep and the spacing opens up on the edges.
Results in smoother feel on the road and good cornering in
I'd missed this thread;

I'm running the 40 MSO's on my canti-Rom... love the tire, but it
wouldn't work w/o the cantis, nor does it have any spare clearance, it has
'just' enough
FWIW.
On Friday,
I've put a lot of miles on the 37mm New Xpress tires, which do fine by me
on firm dirt and packed gravel. I imagine the Paselas would feel pretty
similar. The thicker tread seems to do better on rocks than the 35c Pasela
and C-Line.

I would be worried if those would fit. If they're really 38mm then
should be good but if closer to 40 on my rims that would probably be a
no-go. They do look pretty nice through and I did have it in mind
already that I wanted to order some other stuff from Rivendell.

Great tires, though.

Looks like your AHH has cantis. Yeah the Redwood has 47-57 mm brakes and is
similar
+1. These are great tires.

Forte (Performance) Greenway 700x40 tires, only $20 and a pretty good tire.

Oh, looks like the MSO comes in 700x32 too. Cool!
I enjoy the tread pattern on the MSOs and they do roll well on pavement.

I have WTB All Terrain 700 x 37 on my new ANT. I can't vouch for dirt
performance, but they roll nice on pavement for the 10-20 mile rides I've
done so far. I completely forget they're semi-knobby until I look under the
front rack.

The Clement Xplore MSO comes in 700x32 and 700x40
The Clement Xplore USH comes in 700x35
I think the USH is more what I have in mind, it has a smooth center
section with the diamond shaped blocks on the edge.
Here is a review that I
Sounds like you need some manner of CX tire. I've had good luck with the
Clement MSO 700x40 tires but they would likely not fit on the Redwood. I
believe there is a similar version in 700x35 (USH-something or rather).

Where did you find MSOs on sale? I've found them to be a great tire for me
and want to get some more.
To OP: If you can fit 'em, the MSOs are fantastic tires. Not slow at all
and I obsess on tires a bit.
If you want a bit smaller, and potentially a bit faster, don't forget about
