I was on 2.5 Weirwolves and I was still working pretty hard to keep it on
the trial. Well done!

Awesome! Underbiking will always teach you something, even if that

I rode C-lines on the singletrack at about 60 lbs. They worked pretty nicely.
I stacked, but more due to the fixed gear, saddlebag, and poor handling skills
than the tires. Slow speed endo into gravel.

Thanks,
I have had a freewheel-equipped S3X, generator hub, and semi-knobbies on
the QB for the last two days, but I'm going to just ride the fixed C-Line
wheels. Maybe change the cranks to 39/42 or 44, instead of the 44t Eno set.

I'm bringing a fixed wheelset with Soma C-Lines, and an S3X (FW)/generator set
with very worn Mythos CX knibblies.
I may just do the C-Lines, and trade the 44t ring for a 42/39 chainring setup.
I'm more concerned with Quickbeam gearing than tires.

My QB has 40x16, and I'll be on some well-worn JBs and a cheap front deep-V
wheel that I've wanted to replace for a while. Fingers crossed on that
set-up! Time to put some noodles on, as its only worn Jitensha bars:

San Diego,
My QuickBeam will be wearing its new Soma Sea-lions... hope the colours

As big as will fit. As mentioned above there are a few rocky sections
where you'll want as much volume as possible

On Wednesday,
I just measured the BBs on the Bombadil. Just under 47 at about 50 psi. Synergy
rims. These have been on the bike for a month or so.
Would be tight if it works.

It's a Sam so 650 x 42 with fenders. Probably going to remove the
fenders though so probably up to 45s at least is my guess. The Big Bens
would be nice, but maybe too big.

Yah. The Big Bens would be a squeeze. I know I have a set of Conti Tour
Guards but they are wider than the BBs. And probably one old style Fatty
Rumpkin. Fattys will work but you need to run them at pretty low pressure
on the trails. Let me dig around this evening and see if I have anything
else.
Thanks, Dan.
I think for now I'm going to leave the Hetres in place and bring a back up
tire. I'll pick careful lines. :)

OK. I have a spare Hetre if you end up needing one when you are down here.

I have been VERY happy with my old Fatty Rumpkin tires on and off road in
some pretty rough terrain. I have been running them exclusively on my
Rambler and just rode 2 days of gravel without issue.
That said, I em EXTREMELY excited about the 650b Rn'R tire as well as the
Soma Cazadero in both
Trail conditions up at China Camp are hard and dusty with loose and ~1
deep dust in the worst spots. The real trick is that there are a plethora
of sharp-edged rocks which poke up in certain places - perfect angles for
pinch flats.
I've been running JB's, but then I generally run JB's...
Whatever you end up with, you'll have fun. And if you end up under biking
it, you'll learn all the more! Grin. I took my Barlow Passes on a ride that
sounds equivilant to what Jim just described, and it was definitely under
biking but I did fine -- just took some bits slower and walked others.
More votes for under biking. I love it!
Under biking and adventure it will be.
