Same here. Had drops - Noodles and Nitto Rando - on my Sam and it was never
quite right for my use. If I were doing a tour it might be different, but
the way I use it the Alba bars transformed the bike, mostly by transforming
MY attitude when I get on it.
With the Albas (or, I'd imagine, most
I had the exact same revelation about Albatross bars a couple of years ago
when I swapped out my Noodles; attitude transformed as much as riding
posture. I keep the Noodles around thinking I might need them on some big
tour, but I've found the Albas to be totally comfortable touring bars, too.

up like that - Albas, Chainuard/40/24 (though I don't use the 24 and
don't have a front derailer yet). It does seem to be made for that. That
was how I first rode a Riv at Riv world HQ - a Sam with
Trevor, great looking bike and now you have working bike and your custom
can be as you said your go fast.

You could also put your bar-ends on some Paul thumbies and keep the
Noodles. Like so:
