That’s the simple version of it. People who have experimented a bit with it see
that once they have an aerobic base built up (you’ll know when you do) that the
decline of age lessens rather than being linear. There are also downward
adjustments for condition and health when starting out, as
So Maffetone is basically advocating riding at a pulse rate below 180bpm- your

I'm 10 days in to a very low carb diet, and I've struggled on rides over 40
miles at a pace of 17.5-ish mph, which is my normal June pace for my
standard routes. I've lost about 9 pounds, so it's working, but it's clear
my body is still transitioning. I'm much slower, and I've never before had

When I began longer rides and working out after a month of EBDJ, I often drank
an Atkins shake 30 minutes before a workout. This helped tremendously. I can
now easily ride 25 miles or do a boot camp class at the gym burning 1000

If you don’t have a copy of EBDJ, it’s worth getting. Straightforward info.
I’ve been following Keto for a few weeks and feel a lot more energy when I’m
riding and have noticed that I really don’t get hungry during the day.
