Thanks all. I cleaned the rims with alcohol, and used the matchbook toe in
method, rather than the rubber band one. Rode 10mi this morning,
squeallessly. Hopefully that will last.

What kind of Kool Stop pads are giving you grief? I have Oryx brakes
up with the Eagle2's and they seem to work fine. I used a nickel on
the back ends of the brakes to get an even toe-in. Under very hard
braking up front there is a hint of a squeal, but under 95% of normal
conditions, it's fine.
Besides alcohol, I also have used a glass cleaner. We have gallons of
the stuff from Auto Sport... called Haze Free Glass Cleaner. It works
great on glass great on rims and frames too.
My aunt keeps buying me more of it every Christmasbut I just can't
use it all :)
Have you tried cleaning your rims really well? ...like squeaky clean.

On my Allrounder, I just replaced cheap crappy (crappy as in they
didn't stop the bike, crappy) Gnashbar cantis with Tektro Oryx with
their black pad. I tried to toe them in slightly as I adjusted the
brake pad position during installation. I fully expected to spend some
time fiddling with the
Does denatured alcohol have any deleterious effect on tire rubber?
Thanks,

Denatured alcohol (cheap at any hardware or paint store) and a cast off
