I used levers. Still very difficult with folding Paselas.
As if the tire size was too small or rim too large.
Easier after getting them on first time. But still a fight. One should not have
to fight to mount tires in 2018, especially when there are better sized rims
out there.
Never had to fight
Lum, may I ask a question? Why don't you want to use tire levers? I'm not
judging, just curious. My HED Belgium rims are a real bear to mount my Babyshoe
Pass on, even with levers. But I almost always use a tire lever on all tires
and rims, if for no other reason than to avoid "paper cut"
*I gave up on them. *Getting a Pacenti wheelset. Weigle says Compass and
Pacenti Brevets are a perfect match.
*Anyone wants the wheelset let me know:*
*CR18 rims*
*VO front hub (high flange silver*
*105 silver rear hub shimano type freehub body*
*wheelsmith spokes.*
Newish with very few miles
I've got the same rim. I haven't tried mounting tires ENTIRELY without
levers, but my Pasela 32's mount just fine. Had a flat today on a ride and
had it changed in 5-6 minutes.
I would recommend Pedro's tire
levers: https://pedros.com/products/tools/wheel-and-tire/tire-levers/.
I broke
Did you use the older version of stampede pass? Or extra light? I am using this
combo of CR18 and standard Stampede Pass (newer tubeless version) and changing
a flat has been tricky. Luckily I've only had one flat to date.

Tubeless tape is pretty sturdy, it kind of has to be to deal with tubeless
tires haha

I've had success with GB Cypres on DM-18 rims. Similar remarks apply to
Stampede Pass. I've always had a naive theory that DM-18s and CR-18s are
similar, but I've never put my hands on CR-18s, and don't actually know
that. ;-)

I got that snap in "Zed's"(?) green nylon type tape for slipperiness.
Used Wire bead Pasela went on in a snap.
Folding pasela (new) took a little work but not as bad as getting the 35
Paselas off. Ran a little spit on the bead to help it get over the rim edge.
I ordered some GB Cypress tires and
Seconding this. I've used CR18's (and previously Sun M13's as well) for
years. Most tires have been no problem, although some were a little tight
with cloth rim tape. Switch to something thinner like tubeless tape and you
shouldn't have a problem.

All the GB Cypress tires I've had (roughly 4 pairs) have felt more supple
(in hand/when mounting/not speaking to ride quality) and easier to mount
than the Compass tires.
I haven't tried the combo with the CR-18s but I would think they would be
as easier if not easier than the Stampede Passes
I had terrible experiences with these rims until I got a set of Compass
Stampede Pass tires. They go on no super easy.

I've had nothing but nightmarish experiences with these rims. Maybe I got
part of a bad batch (I've read there were some that were oversized).
I tried a number of different tires, from supple compasses to stout
schwalbes to good 'ol pasellas. At best it took 20 minutes of muscling and
a few
Not a tire, but try putting tubeless tape on there if you haven't done so
already. Gives more of a groove to fit part of the bead in while you pop
the other side on.
