The principles are the same, but the cork tape is going to be a lot thicker
and in my own experience, while not much harder to wrap, it has a higher
tendency to become unwrapped or slip along the handlebars on its own during
use. I much prefer leather tape, and from the available choices, the best

Wrap up from the end leaving a bit to tuck so as to avoid that unsightly
bulge.

Tuck the end of the tape in between the bar and the cable exiting the
bar-end pod. Then wrap around the outside of the cable* and it will hold
the end in place. No tape required.
*obviously, you must choose whether to wrap the shift cable, and how far.
