I had the same drag on my 650b converted Riv Road with Longboards mounted
with Sheldon nuts. The short flap is the perfect solution. Sheldon nuts
make fenders so much easier.
Those SKS fenders were lost when the rear ate a stick and accordioned under
the brakes. FYI, my wheel did lock up but I
How do you like the hammered VOs? Still running 650b x 38? Pics?
One of my Longboards got damages in an um 'unintended off road excursion'
so I'm thinking about replacing them, either with another pair of the same,
or some kind of metal fenders.
Is your chainstay bridge threaded? Mine is not.
Sheldon nuts don't work on longboards anyway, if you attach them to the
backside of the fork, you will end up occasionally dragging the flap on the
ground.

But to say they don't work is a little rich, right? Sorry to get into
semantics. All is fair!

Jim, when you say that Sheldon Nuts don't work with longboards, I think you
mean front only, right? The rear has plenty of room. Do you mean with
650B, 700C or both? I think you mean just 650B. Do you mean with the
short flap, the long flap or both?

Bill,
Yes, I meant front only, with 650B. Even after switching the fender
mounting tang to the front of the fork, I still drag the flap on the ground
sometimes which causes it to fold up under the tire and rub annoyingly. I
then have to stop and fix it.
I don't see how it would be that
On my 650B Hilsen, I found the long stock flap would brush on the grass. I
replaced that long flap with the short flap:

Was not aware of the existence of the Short Flap. I guess Grant really did
think of everything. Might have to acquire one the next time I order stuff
from Rivendell.

That's for sure!
Much easier to just undo the fender alone.
My only trouble is I can only get about 3.5 turns onto the brake bolt with the
longer of the two sheldon nuts in my pack. Bleriot crown with R559 brakes and a
rack on the front like this:
R559-brake spacer thingy-rack tab-knurled spacer
Looks like they have the front end set up like this:
1. Brake, then nut thingy, 2. the rack tab, then 3. the fender tab, then
4. the washer/spacer knurled thingy, all up against the fork crown, and
then the brake bolt nut from the back.
So no need for a Sheldon nut for the fender tab.
You can
Just ride.
I have to say, you may not *need* a fender bolt, but it's nice not to futz
with the brakes every time you want to remove your fenders.
