I would try some of the other knobby-ish options as well - Terrene Ellwoods,
WTB Byways or Resolutes, Vee speedsters.

I have a green canti Sam set up with Alba’s and 38mm Paselas that I rode all
throughout Golden Gate Park after I got it. It definitely felt like
“underbiking” at some points, but I had trouble discerning whether that was due
to my set up or to my poor trail skills :) . Either way, I had a
Neil, I love Compass’ knobbies on my off-roadish Quickbeam and they handle
pavement as well as ThunderBurts.
