i wonder that as well.
The material for the dress shoes appears as though it may be too
rigid.
The material on the rubber soled shoe could work. I have only used
them since spring, but so far they have held up well.
I imagine Brooks and Berthoud would not be interested. There must be

That 2 strut thing looks really odd to me.

Have a couple of the mini racks. Use them on the Atlantis and
Hillborne. Find them quite useful. But both bikes have braze-ons for
the rack.
My R14 is solid. But currently not mounted on any bike. Originally
set up the Hillborne with that rack. But ended up going to a Tubus

Has anyone experience of using the VO's Viva bag loops with a San
Marco Regal saddle. Specifically can you orient the loops and get them
far enough apart for easy saddlebag installation?

Yesterday was a real test of my commitment to fixed/ss riding -- I don't own
any multispeed bike; well, except the little drop frame Schwinn Sprint I got
at GW for my daughter's bike stable. And it was an example of how weight,
especially wheel weight, matters.
Anyway, yesterday morning I wanted

Berthouds on my Rambouillet and really like them. With my Hilsen I'm
thinking of putting on some hammered Honjos (700x45). I won't be
attaching the front fender to a rack and I'm wondering if it will
vibrate a lot. Isn't this a problem

The 559 45 mm Honjos I have are at least as stiff as the Berthouds I used
before. In my experience -- Honjos, Berthouds, Velo Orange metals, all the
plastics -- the metal ones, properly mounted, vibrate less than the plastic
ones.

When I put Berthouds on my Ram I was surprised at how easy they were
to install. They were actually easier to install than SKS.
I think the Berthouds tend to be a little sturdier. And they're
certainly cheaper. But man, those Honjos look nice...

Yeah, I'm running that combination. It's a little narrow, but I turned the
loops outward slightly at an angle and the straps go through them okay...

Thus, do it yourself to do it right. They (metal
fenders) are easy to install, once you understand the sequence of
necessary actions and Jitensha has, or had, a very detailed and clear
two pages of instructions on their site.
Funny. Believe it or not, I do know how to install fenders. In
I've actually found that the 45 mm Honjos dent less easily than the 50 mm
Berthouds, and the Honjos seem just as stiff and secure.
That Berthouds are more apt to dent than Honjos arguably supports that
Berthouds are more rigid and thus less apt to vibrate. Dents happen

Thanks, I've been a Brooks rider most of my life, but now I'm going to
try out the San Marco Regal. I just can't bring myself to ride my

It's been a pretty good saddle for me. I'd recommend some sort of saddle

use a support if I was carrying much more...

Just wondering which SKS fenders you have? Some of the ones I've seen
out there are quite a bit longer than others.

I have the standard SKS P45s and they don't provide adequete coverage
in the front. The coverage is even worse if you use Sheldon Nuts.
Thanks for the responses. I have a feeling I'll go with the Honjos.
I've kinda always wanted them. I'm gonna wait a little while to order
them as I'm going out
I had Honjos on the Bleriot long before I got the front rack. No
front fender vibration issues that I recall. The rear fender did have
an vibration issue in the fender bridge piece, but I stuffed a piece
of old inner tube in there and it stopped.

Someone, I don't know if it is Honjo or not; perhaps Jan Heine of Bicycle
Quarterly, recommends thick leather washers between metal fender and frame.
I cut my own, but VO does sell them. The recommender claims that they will
reduce vibration and thus fatigue, and they also (I suppose, since I've
Actually, VO-branded and sourced versions of the Honjo style, likely will cost

It looks like I'm good to go. I'll apply a bit of loctite to stop
slippage. The weight in my Barley is just a couple of pounds; pump
tubes, tools lock etc. and I think the Vivas and strapping the Barley
to the seatpost will work fine
