I had the same problem. After trying two sets of Silver shifters on both bar ends and down tube mounts. I finally replaced my modernish DuraAce front (7800) road triple derailleur with an older XT circa 1989ish. Fixed the slipping problem, and the shifter is smooth and light. Big difference.
