Kolby, I'm a little embarrassed I had no idea about the Riding the
Catskills blog. What a gem of a blog. A wealth of riding to explore here.
Thanks,

They say you must grease the threads upon each use.
They say you should tighten by hand, then 1-1.5 turns after that with tool.
But I usually can't even get it 1 turn.

Chris, I sent you an email.
The Atlantis is a great bike and out of the three Rivs I've owned it's
probably the most versatile and fun to ride.

1.95 renegades and 2.1 thunder berts fit in VO zeplin fenders. Those tires
actually measure out the same width mounted on the same rim.

Naptha / white gas / camp fuel / "coleman fuel" is a miracle-worker for
removing adhesive residue. I've found that most other solvents just
require more elbow grease. It's also pretty safe on paints and plastics,
so a good alternative to harsher solvents when you have to clean sticky
stuff
One needs to regrease the threads each time one unlocks & relocks the wheel?

Thats what the instructions say.
But I greased mine so heavily, that upon first removal and remounting of the
wheel, there was still so much grease on the skewer that I didnt bother.

I lock my Atlantis up in some fairly questionable areas, but always for as
short a time as I can manage - ie: getting a haircut, running in for
groceries or a restaurant maybe.
First thing I do is try to lock it in an area with a lot of foot traffic or
exposure. Sure that may not stop some
I found a column in an online bike rag yesterday, can't remember where, in
which the columnist said Pitlock wheel skewers will eventually strip and
need replacement.
This guy said his lasted three years before needing to be replaced.
Has anyone here had any experiences with Pitlock skewers
I have skepticsim for this bike rag report. My pitlocks are well
engineered. I expect them to last for a very long time. The install
instructions tell you not to over-tighten the lock bolt. I suppose if you
crank it down you could damage the skewer threads.
I've had no trouble what-so-ever.
Nice! I can't quite make it out - what tire/fender combo is that? I'd love
some 2"ish tires and fenders on my 58cm atlantis. I'm sure I could fit 2.1
thunder burts with fenders if I had 60mm fenders. But I only have 50's :(
These bikes just look so right with chubby tires.

I've got an older pair of blue MUSA pants in medium. These are slightly
shorter and slimmer than a pair MUSA pants I bought new from Riv about a
year ago.
Waist buckle works fine as well as the zippers at the bottom of the pant
legs.
I'm hoping to try a pair of those Compass knickers and am

Hi Jon,
I'm really glad you enjoyed the post, it means a lot. I know ride reports
are my favorite posts, I love to see what others are doing around the
country. I don't read all and I regret that and hope to read more trip/ride
reports into the future. I particularly enjoy the images you and

In my attempt to make good on a desire to read more ride reports my eyes

how the bike accentuated the experience. I can relate to a sense memory

I'll have to hit you up for a ride guide or recommendation when I meander
thru (or possibly past) LA with a bike later this year.
The juxtaposition of LA sprawl and its wilderness environs is pretty
interesting.
