That derailleur was made for 1980s mountain bikes. The outer chainring would have been 48 teeth. And since the wheels were 26" 559, the hubs would be closer to the ground. Plus the bottom bracket would have been higher than on an Atlantis. So the chain stays would have been closer to horizontal.

I've owned both. In my experience, the tighter and twistier the trail, the better 27.5+ is. They accelerate better than 29+ wheels. That being said, 29+ wheels do just roll over stuff better, so you're less likely to slow in the first place. For dirt roads and pavement, 29+, no question. Eric
