Actually, the QB had a slacker head angle (72.5 vs. 73) than the Ram/Roadeo.
Also, the angles will get less steep as your slide the wheel back (it drops
the rear end of the bike).

If i remember correctly: typically a reynolds 753 tubeset was 757 with an 858
down tube. The 753 rivendells had a longer 7 section in the seat tube.
Reynolds 531c was slightly thicker inside with 858 and a 10710 downtube.
Reynolds 501 and some of the ishiwatta tubes where 969 in all tubes.
How do you plan to drive? The usual way is the tedious, yet fast, inland
route. But AFAIK that doesn't take you close to any good notable riding
spots.
The California Coast is wonderful from about Half Moon Bay (just south of
