I just got a pair of these along with my recent order. I like 'em good, too.

Re: [Ext] [RBW] Re: New Riv Model - Newsletter

2017-06-10 Thread Bill Lindsay
I owned a Homer between 2010 and 2013 or thereabouts. That was becoming my
"serious" brevet bike, and I sold it to help do a full on no-holds-barred
brevet bike build on a Rawland Stag (and that frameset has also moved along)

I have never owned a Hunqapillar. I did own an Appaloosa for a little
while, and sold that because the 650B Hunqapillar at Riv HQ was so awesome.
That slot in the stable was a knockabout camping bike that both me and my
son can ride. This mountain mixte fills that slot, so I will not likely be
buying a Hunqapillar anytime soon. Another way to put it is that this bike
will be my "Manny bike". Anytime we go out with Manny, this bike will go.

I also used to own a 700c Atlantis, and sold it to a neighbor who begged me
to sell it to him. I was going to replace that with a 650b Atlantis, and
likely still will, but since Grant has something new coming for the
Atlantis, I'm waiting to see what that is.

[RBW] Short Riv product review, gloves

2017-06-10 Thread Joe Bernard
These babies:

https://www.rivbike.com/collections/clothing/products/thinny-riding-gloves-fake-leather-grey

Look great, work great, the sizing description is spot on, I have small hands
and bought the Large. They fit a bit loose (my preference), I could've gone
Medium. I've never had any luck with padded anything on the bike; I'm a firm
believer that if something hurts in the saddle/bar connection, you need a
better position, better saddle or better bars.

These unpadded gloves are fabulous at a fabulous price. The new fork crown
t-shirts are pretty swell, too.

Re: [Ext] [RBW] Re: New Riv Model - Newsletter

2017-06-10 Thread Joe Bernard
Dstein: I think arm length and style of riding matter much in this equation.
I'm a little guy with short arms and everything I ride has the bars level or
higher than the saddle; the last time I rode drops they we're almost comically
jacked up, but it felt great. But - as you addressed - I'm not a particularly
aggressive rider, even if I'm out there for a few hours. So the upright
position is best for me, although I wouldn't use pullback bars for singletrack,
that's for common flatbars or the original Bullmoose.

Thanks so much for the idea. I gave it a try myself this morning. Problem

[RBW] Rear rack adapter for Hubbuhubbuh tandems?

2017-06-10 Thread Ray Varella
Does anyone recall mention of an adapter for putting a rack on the HHH tandems!

I seem to recall reading that there would be some sort of adapter but I could
be mistaken.

Thank you,
Ray

[RBW] Re: Big Ol' Mixte Update

2017-06-10 Thread Grant @ Rivendell
The old song updated and fantasticized, Martin! Good work.

The low horizontal tube makes it a "Laddie Lifter,"a term we've used
--along 'lady lifter," depending--many times around here. Gotta love a
Laddie Lifter. I also triangulates the BB area, reducing flex/fatigue
there. Even without it, the frame won't break, but the LLTube locks it in.
It's strategically (intelligently, not dumbly) placed to allow a front
derailer. Related to "derailer"--I've adopted the Sheldon spelling for so
long now, it's automatique! I'm a Sheldon admirereur. But back to the LL..

I'm kind of surprised that no one has mentioned the comment in the May 30

replacing them next year. Having a bike between a Sam and a Joe seems to be
splitting a finer line but I'm stoked to see what they come with (or maybe come
up with). I recently bought a silver 51 Joe and it has really calmed down my
bike buying desires because it is just so good. I have a Sam, Joe, Cheviot,
San Marcos , Rosco Mountain Mixte on order and a Quickbeam so I don't need
another. But I'm endlessly interested in what they come up with.

Freddie Hoffman has ridden more than 1.5 million miles with an
upright-swept back handlebar. In the '80s he averated 50,000 miles per
year. We've covered him in the RR, he's been written up here and there...it
can be done.
