Absolutely understood on the distance... Bromptons definitely have their place but that might not be one. I wish I was closer to Mpls/St Paul (in so many ways!) and if that were so, you could definitely borrow a bike. I love that area and it was high on my list when I was looking to move.

Supposedly, the transcontinental Amtrak routes all have baggage cars with bike racks. This one had a special compartment in one of the cars which was used for intermediate stops like Winona. It was convenient, but frankly using one of their boxes and having them handle it all the way was
