Dang. Driving down the value of all our green QBs!

It doesn't read like a stolen bike post, though. It sounds like someone who

that used Quickbeams are in the "slightly more than original retail" price
range now. Or they want someone to get a good deal on a bike they don't need...

[RBW] Re: In praise of Spur-cycles bells

2017-07-12 Thread Deacon Patrick
Well, I should have gone with the Rivenbell from the bell. I got their
hammer strike
bell, https://www.rivbike.com/products/hammer-strike-bell-brass, and this
is a wonderfully deeper tone that nearly everyone but the deaf hear, even
with wind, birds, conversation, and traffic in various combination.

Usually one dig does it. First time on the MUP trail, I test rang it as it
parallels the highway. DING! I rounded the top of the hill and dropped
down to the horse barn to see a man smiling and waving and standing to the
side of the trail. Wow. This beastie works! Didn't even know the lad was
there.

My own experience places the Rivenbell as much ahead of the SpurCycle bell
as the SpurCycle bell is ahead of the other bells. Both are friendly, but
the Rivenbell's deeper, louder tone gets heard and that makes all the
difference.

With abandon,
Patrick

Re: [RBW] Re: Sag Wagon Camping Test Run

2017-07-12 Thread Tim Butterfield
Patrick,

That sounds fun. Even modern data can be a bit off. We once took a drive
in our low slung 2004 Audi S4 to our farm in the Missouri Ozarks. I set
the nearly new Garmin GPS to keep us off of the interstates and it surely
did that. It routed us on one road that dwindled to gravel and then to
barely visible tracks in the overgrown grass of the cow pasture we crossed
before it turned back into gravel on the other side. I'm not sure I would
really classify what we crossed as a 'road' in the normal sense of the
word. There might have once been a road there, but it disappeared long
before the GPS used the data. Still, it was a fun and interesting
diversion. My AHH would be a better candidate for traversing it than the
S4.

Even local knowledge can be less than helpful when it depends on
familiarity. For example, after just moving to a new area in NC, my wife
once received instructions, "Go up til you get to the Brown's farm and take
a right" like she was supposed to know where that was. :)

You can see that our atlas shows what is seen in Streetview as the through
4WD rd. This is wrong as you found out.

The MVUM map, published this year by the Forest Service is what we should
show, and will show in the next edition of the CO atlas. FR 254 is

Flying to Portland in a couple of weeks and purchasing my wife a bike from

Supposedly, the transcontinental Amtrak routes all have baggage cars with
bike racks. This one had a special compartment in one of the cars which
was used for intermediate stops like Winona. It was convenient, but
frankly using one of their boxes and having them handle it all the way was
less hassle.

[RBW] Mpls Riv?

2017-07-12 Thread Sean Kline
I'm headed back to my hometown of Minneapolis for three days July 20-23 to see
friends and Bon Iver. It's just short enough to make bringing my Sam a lot of
work. And because I'm on United Basic Economy (ugh), I'd pay for anything
beyond my backpack. I checked Spinlister, but would love to ride a Riv rather
than anything that's listed. Is there, by chance, anyone on the list in Mpls/St
