I know, I know, I am most certainly seeing all the pictures we're missing in my

And honestly, I keep coming back to the terrible imaginightmare of me coming to
an abrupt stop via a big boulder on my own 68 Quickbeam, making for a
uncomfortable situation, even with a 100pbh, and even on a 66 'beam for that

All in a days roll I suppose. I'll have to see if my Samsung has burst

[RBW] Re: FS: Compass Rat Trap Pass 26" x 2.3"

2017-09-25 Thread Gabriel Bruguier

>
> As Reid mentioned, the tires have been sold. It was an excellent
>> transaction, and I hope you enjoy them!
>>
>
Kellie and other members have asked what I didn't like about the tires. A
more considered answer is that they just didn't seem to work with my bike,
compared to the tires I had mounted before/currently (which were/are a set
of lowly Kenda K-rads). Here's the best I can do at explaining it. The
bike is a 1985 Miyata Streetrunner, with 70/68 angles, and considerable
wheel flop. Even though both tires are labelled as 26" x 2.3", the RTPs
seemed to exaggerate the flop. Like it seemed slightly twitchier at lower
speeds. Now I didn't really subject this hypothesis to rigorous
experiment-- after about a week and half with the RTPs I removed them and
remounted the K-rads, and didn't really think about it any more.

I will admit though, that between the two tires, the RTPs have the
advantage at higher speed. They live up to their reputation as being fast
rolling.

Finally, in my experience the K-rads have better puncture protection. I
got two punctures from tiny little thorns in the short time I had them
mounted. I'm sure that if I did sealant or something I could have avoided
this. But the handling thing kept me from looking for long term solutions
to this problem.

Below is a photo of the big guy with the K-rads. Yes, I did mount the rear
one on the wrong side :D

[RBW] Re: Low rider rack using top/forward eyelets on fork?

2017-09-25 Thread 'Eamon Nordquist' via RBW Owners Bunch
I didn't realize the hub area rack used the upper eyelets. That seems to be
almost exactly what I want, except it uses upper mounting points, not
traditional low rider mounts placement. That said, I could have them added
(I'm going to have some mods done on the frame in question).

I like the VO Campeur rack, but want the ability to quickly remove or add
the lowriders, and I don't want the upper platform as I occasionally need
to put the bike on the front rack of a city bus. The other Nitto rack does
have easily removed low riders, but has the unneccesary (for me) upper
platform.

[RBW] Re: WTB: SKS Fender Parts

Thanks, George. The only difference between fenders beginning with 'B' and
those beginning with 'P' is the black flap 'tail'. So, mine are 53s which
puts them right in between 45s and 65s. I believe the ones on from a 50 or
55, if there is such a size, will be the best fit. As for being in a hurry,

[RBW] Re: Zeus

2017-09-25 Thread Ron Mc
When I was a student tinkering on my old Raleigh GP, the UT Co-Op bike shop
carried Zeus, and these were my dream bikes.
I built up my '98 Moser frame to look like the Zeus I couldn't afford in
college.

As far as those Zeus components went, I cleaned up at Co-op - everyone who
worked there raced, won parts, and sold them cheap behind the counter.

My old Raleigh was decorated with Zeus hubs, DT shifters and brake levers.

2017-09-25 Thread Kiley DeMond
Generally, I loathe when people give an answer that doesn't answer the
question asked (Amazon answers are the worst: Q: "Does the silver fade?" A:
"I don't know, I have it in black and it didn't."), but I decided that
someone considering a larger Cheviot may stumble across the thread and
write off the bike based on the answer. My Cheviot is a 60cm with 700c
wheels and I can do 50cm tires with fenders and 55cm tires without. I have
the Tekro r559 long reach brakes.

[RBW] Re: What rack for HubbuHubbuH?

2017-09-25 Thread Bob Lovejoy
I laughed the other day when the "captain" of a local (and great!) tandem
couple was noting (bemoaning?) the fact he never got to carry anything of
his own in his back jersey pockets. His wife and stoker uses his jersey
pockets as her filing system - maps, snacks, phone?, everything needed.
She claimed she always reserved one (of the three) pockets for Pat's stuff
but he was not completely convinced nor was he always told which pocket was
his!

Anyway, your solution is a great one!

[RBW] Zeus

2017-09-25 Thread Christopher Cote
I had heard of Zeus components, but I had never seen or heard of a Zeus frame
until I read the piece in the Blug last week. Now today I went for a walk at
lunch time, and what do I see locked up on the sidewalk? A Zeus bike. I'll post
some pics I took later, but it appears to be lower-end than the one on the
Blug. The rear derailleur is marked "sagittario Italy". Never heard of that,
either.

[RBW] Low rider rack using top/forward eyelets on fork?

2017-09-25 Thread 'Eamon Nordquist' via RBW Owners Bunch
Does anybody know of a low rider front rack that mounts using top/forward
eyelets at the dropout? The Tubus Tara is nearly perfect, but it uses the same
eyelet meant for fender mounting, providing its own spot for fender mounting.
There are two things I dislike about this. Attaching a fender requires a nut,
as the rack's mounting point is not threaded. If you remove the rack, your
stays don't reach the eyelets on the fork. I would love to be able to
independently remove or add the rack without messing with my fenders -
preferably with just one Allen wrench.

I understand why manufacturers use the fender mounting point - not all bikes
have double eyelets at the dropout. Still, I find it irritating. I suppose a
custom rack would be the solution, but I wonder if a Tubus Tara could be
modified to use the upper eyelets.

[RBW] Re: Largest tires on Cheviots

2017-09-25 Thread Philip Kim
switchback hills on velocity a23 rims without fenders. although you could
modify fenders with sheldon fender nuts and L brackets, so that the fender
doesn't go under the bridges, and cutting it up to get max clearance.

i highly suggest paul racer on the front, and whatever sidepulls on the
rear.

[RBW] Re: OT, sorry, but somewhat urgent question about car trouble

Does this car have a distributor? If so, there might be a crack in the
distributor crack. The crack lets just enough moisture in to cause a
