My blue 56cm is serial number - AH0273 I did NOT buy it from the original owner but two years ago, probably from the third owner. Can I assume that mine is also a Toyo build? Re: [RBW] Rosco Bebe in the BLUG
My 2 1/2 year old ~30lbs daughter still loves the yepp mini. She's tall enough that my 5'5" wife is no longer comfortable being able to negotiate the toddler helmet knocking her chin but for my 6' self it's not an issue. My daughter loves it, each seat has a weight limit/recommendation. Front seating can move past the strapped in seat with a cycle truck/Euro style small saddle mounted up on the TT once they are old enough to sit on a saddle. I plan to transition to that next summer most likely. We also use a Burley trailer for rides she seems likely to fall asleep on. Re: [RBW] Appaloosa vs road bike - (pointless) 19 mile commute time comparison
In general, I entirely agree; except that I'd state it thus: one's physiology, riding habits, and bike choice lead one to become very comfortable and accustomed to certain torque and cadence combinations in given circumstances; again, +/- small differences. This is why, I think, I find anything beyond 1-t gaps in a very narrow cruising range (say, 65" to 75") so annoying, while outside of that, I really don't care -- and this might also prove the reasonableness of such old, 3-speed hub gears that gave you the equivalent of 1-tooth steps and a total range of 15%. Funny -- I'm out of shape now, but when I am reasonably in shape, I use a relatively small range even for long hill climbs. 70" or 75" more or less for flatland cruising, but no lower than 60" or perhaps 55" on a bad day for the long Tramway climb; and often 60 and 65" instead, since I prefer to stand on the 1-mile "steep" section. On the other side, I dislike spinning up downhill, and rein it back to ~25 mph, which in a 76" gear is far lower than even 120 rpm. This dates back to my teenage years, when I had what I guess was a half-stepped Raleigh Sprite with 48/44 X 14-28. I was entirely ignorant and didn't know half step from crossover, so I kept it in the 48 all the time, since that was the "fast" ring. (Actually, it dates from my first build, everything entirely wrong, which had a single ~90" gear. I only walked the ~ 25% steepest sections. [RBW] FS: 55cm Bridgestone MB-2 + Bruce Gordon HMF
https://www.flickr.com/photos/joe_bunik/albums/72157703630407114 Up for offer is a nice, largest-size 1989 MB-2 frame with a (NOS) Bruce Gordon "Rock 'N Road Expedition" 559 fork, and paired up with a BG HMF rack. These MB's are great climbers, and with the integrated front rack would make for an excellent adventure bike. Frame is in good condition, no dents or damage but some paint and decal wear. Fork has minor wear and tear from a lifetime of living in a box of forks. Among unicrowns, the Gordon forks have an excellent bend and are very well made. Forged plate-dropouts, with HMF-specific rack bosses up top plus front/rear eyelets at the drops. The drive-side top rail of the rack has been expertly repaired by an experienced rack-builder (a new piece of tubing was internally sleeved-in), paint retouched w/ rattle-can black. Asking $425 + actual Bikeflights shipping; please let me know if you are interested or have any questions. Re: [RBW] Appaloosa vs road bike - (pointless) 19 mile commute time comparison
I have in the past been distressed* to notice that my times on at least many rides over similar hilly routes were as fast or almost so on the 30+-lb Fargo with Big Apple tires as on the 18 lb Riv fixed gofast. I put this down to the fact that while climbing on the fixie was considerably faster, going down was faster on the Fargo by an even greater margin. ~20 mile rides with numerous 1/2 to 1-mile long climbs; say 5 miles of climbing overall. (Northern Rio Rancho.) *Now* I am distressed to find (or think I find; haven't bothered to time closely) that my Matthews with 20 psi 700C X 60 Big Ones is as fast on the flats as my Rivs, which I put down to similar riding position and excessively excellent rolling qualities of the Big Ones. *Situational irony and verbal irony. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "RBW Owners Bunch" group. [RBW] Appaloosa vs road bike - (pointless) 19 mile commute time comparison
On the few occations I’ve timed my ride and then compared times between Quickbeam and Hunqabeam, they are nearly the same (within a minute for a 70 minute climb). The Quickbeam is faster on the roads, Hunqabeam faster on the trails. The difference is 2-3 minutes, whch then gets made up or lost on the trail or road. Aside from frame differences, the only differences are the Hunqabeam has panniers and wider/heavier tires. Both are fixed (Hunqabem geared down roughly 10” vs QB), Albastache bars, same pedals, same engine, similar weather pattern on test days. As others have said, far from scientific (too many variables to account for, and no repetition). Still, I was laughing. A new experience for me. I rather like it. Grin. When I've helped riders find a more comfortable position, they have gained speed, despite losing a little aerodynamic efficiency. I have an upright Rambouillet with mustache bars high up and a drop bar waterford in lightweight tubing. Both bikes have 1 1/2" tires. I am about 1 1/2 mph faster on the drop bar bike. Not enough to matter at all. I do like riding different bikes though so the enjoyment factor makes it worthwhile to keep more than one. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "RBW Owners Bunch" group.
