Re: [RBW] Re: Two-Bike Leah

2019-07-25 Thread Mark Roland
Hi Leah. Yes and Yes. You can see the bags on the Clementine in the middle
photo of my last post in this thread. I purchased both the pannier rails
and the tail light mount for the Clem rack. May get the pump mount as well.
I recommend the pannier rails as they position the bags a bit lower. I've
carried some heavy stuff in the bags on this rack, no problem. Currently on
my Trekendell, which is awaiting an overhaul and re-imagining this fall. If
the Nitto is your desire and will make you happy, definitely go that way.
But props to the Clem Rack, it's useful, and I think, attractive in an
industrial, no-frills way.

[RBW] Re: FS: Pass&Stow, Crust, Tubus, Donnelly, Conti

2019-07-25 Thread Collin A
Pass&Stow sale is pending, here is what is left:

*Tubus Vega Evo, Black - $60 Shipped*
Good condition, used for about 6 months. The mounting struts have been cut
shorter (to about 150mm). Might have to add another $10 to cover shipping,
depends where the new home is...

*Continental X-kings 27.5x2.4, Protection - $60 Shipped*
I've used these for maybe 300 miles, mostly off-road. They work well in
loose and muddy conditions, a proper MTB tire for Clem and Hunqs. Measures
to 2.3" on 25 mm ID rims

*Donnelly Strada USHs 650x50, Non-tubeless - $50 Shipped*
Bought these as a cheaper alternative to Compass Tires. They work well, but
ultimately went with wider G-ones. Maybe about 300 miles and plenty of
tread life left. They roll great on pavement and provide a decent amount of
grip on the dirt. Good commuter or tourer tires. Measures to 49 mm on 25 mm
ID rims

Re: [RBW] Looking for a replacement for the old MUSA short sleeved merino wool jersey

2019-07-25 Thread Patrick Moore
The Wabis are wonderful; I have 3, an original edition (only gripe: the
rear pockets are too high, making it awkward to get things in and out), and
2 lighterweight ones from a year or 2 ago -- lighter, but the wool is even
nicer.

But I daresay even the newer ones would be too hot in summer. I did look at
the Wabi site recently for ss wool jerseys, but found none.

I do have 3 of the old Riv Woolywarm ss jerseys, though alas at least 2
share the Rivendell jersey defect of excessive length (I had a very nice
Riv ls jersey too; it was about 4" too long for the width, and I'm trim).
After a few rides with the usual kit in the pockets, the hems are down
around your knees. Still, very comfortable in weather up to mid 90s, at
least in low humidity.

Patrick Moore, who just rode in a plastic Pearl Izumi jersey in mid-90s,
unusually* humid ABQ, NM

* It sure felt humid on my ride just now, in early "monsoon" season; I
stopped numerous times to fine-tune the cleats on new shoes, and I was
dripping -- I was thinking of past summers in Washington, DC and Atlanta,
or Delhi just before the monsoon, or Karachi always (hellhole with high
humidity and no rain0. But just checked 2 weather sites for my zip: 24* and
27*. Still, high compared to the sub 10* we very often see, and too high
for the very common swamp coolers here to work effectively (I have
refrigerated air, thank God.

[RBW] Re: Two-Bike Leah

2019-07-25 Thread 'Deacon Patrick' via RBW Owners Bunch
Leah, The Clem rails work well with the backabike bag, and free up the top
rack for load without interfering with the panniers. And Mark's correct ...
the rack isn't seen with the bags on, and even less with a top load in
addition. The only reason I can see for going Nitto instead is load
assurance of Nitto, which seems engineered to handle more than the Clems,
though rated the same for each, I believe (using different criteria). That
is why I have Nitto on my bikes, because I jounce a load on rocks and roots
at speed. Me lassies take a more sensible load and speed than I do. Grin.

With abandon,
Patrick

Less of a long shot but probably a very similar bike would be a Rambouillet.
Those came in 58 and come up here and on eBay from time to time. You could even

[RBW] FS: Pass&Stow, Crust, Tubus, Donnelly, Conti

2019-07-25 Thread Collin A
Hi All,

I'm in the middle of cleaning my parts bin of bits that I haven't used in
about a year. I'll post some photos later this afternoon, but here is a
link to where they will go:
https://photos.app.goo.gl/pdm9foEYYMCYYEqw8

*Pass and Stow Five Rail, black - $200 Shipped*
Gold standard for front platform racks, handbuilt in Oakland. Excellent
condition, still has tape around contact points to prevent paint chips. It
won't have all of the mounting hardwear, but has most of what you'll need.
https://www.passandstowracks.com/

*Tubus Vega Evo, Black - $60 Shipped*
Good condition, used for about 6 months. The mounting struts have been cut
shorter (to about 150mm). Might have to add another $10 to cover shipping,
depends where the new home is...

*Crust Front Rack, black - $40 Shipped*
Good condition, but limited adjust-ability for mounting. Fits perfectly on
a 52 clem, but can be bent a bit to fit other bikes. Relatively lightweight
and has a nice platform for a bag or basket
https://crustbikes.com/products/small-rack/

*Continental X-kings 27.5x2.4, Protection - $60 Shipped*
I've used these for maybe 300 miles, mostly off-road. They work well in
loose and muddy conditions, a proper MTB tire for Clem and Hunqs. Measures
to 2.3" on 25 mm ID rims

*Donnelly Strada USHs 650x50, Non-tubeless - $50 Shipped*
Bought these as a cheaper alternative to Compass Tires. They work well, but
ultimately went with wider G-ones. Maybe about 300 miles and plenty of
tread life left. They roll great on pavement and provide a decent amount of
grip on the dirt. Good commuter or tourer tires. Measures to 49 mm on 25 mm
ID rims
https://www.donnellycycling.com/collections/adventure/products/strada-ush-650b-folding-60-tpi

Send questions if you've got 'em!

Re: [RBW] Re: WTT: Brooks B67 for B17 or Cambium

2019-07-25 Thread Elias Hakim
I've had the saddle for 2-3 years if I recall correctly. It had been on my
partner's second bike-which I believe she has had for about a year- and has
been ridden for ~6 months give or take. We live in an arid climate so it
hasn't seen much of any significant moisture beyond a quick spring rain
shower or perhaps a surprise early spring snow flurry.

There is some proofide on the bottom and the rails are a bit scuffed from a
couple of adjustments she made. The leather is still firm, but it is a bit
more broken in than a new saddle. We have not touched the tension
adjustment.

Let me know if you would like more detailed photos of any particular part
of the saddle!

Re: [RBW] Dia-Compe or King Iris Water Bottle Cage? (or WTB )

2019-07-25 Thread REC (Roberta)
You both are so right! I thought my Dia-Compe Cages were secure (they
are!), but these King Iris ones are unbelievable! I had to wrestle my
water bottles from their new cages last night.

The Dia-compe ones are slightly sleeker looking, and the King Iris are
slightly heftier looking (but they are not that different from each other),
so I'll be putting the King Iris on my Joe A and The Dia-Compe ones on my
A. Homer Hilsen. I think anyone would be happy with either, should one be
sold out and the other available. The lovely iris shape is similar.

[RBW] Re: short note of gratitude

2019-07-25 Thread Rich Lesnik
I've noticed a fair number of posts regarding rear-rim Synergy failures.
My/our approach is this: if the wheel's been ridden for a "reasonable" time
-- say, 6 years or more -- then I/we offer to replace it at half-price,
with no labor charge. You cover the shipping to us (you could send just the
hub if you want). If it's sooner than that, then no charge, but you still
pay the shipping to us. The usual replacement is the Atlas, Dyad or A23.
The off-center Synergy rim had a tendency to crack around the spoke-holes,
so was discontinued and replaced with the Velocity/Rivendell-designed Atlas.

[RBW] WTT: Brooks B67 for B17 or Cambium

2019-07-25 Thread Justin Schoop
Title says it all. I have a B67 that has seen very little use and am hoping to
trade for a B17. Color doesn't matter. Thanks!
