Joe, I hope you get that Bombadil!
If that were my size, my wallet will be complaining again :-)

Fingers crossed, Ian. I tried to pay up front but he doesn't do the PayPal
thing (I don't blame him) so I'm supposed to talk to his bike shop on Tuesday
about getting it packed and shipped and go from there. So if anyone is in the
area and "needs" it more than I do, bring cash before I figure
It sounds like you want to rotate the lever mounts 90 degrees on a mustache
bar. I’ve never seen this done, but it seems feasible. You might want to adjust
the mating surface of the lever with a half-round file.
Disclaimer: I didn’t even visit the bike shed to look at the pieces.
UPDATE
Hey James,
Could you elaborate on the cerakote. I have one of the previous 2 bolt stems,
and love it, but it has developed rust under the coating. Does the cerakote
minimize this? I know it’s used on guns and stuff. Curious about differences in
the previous finishes and this new version.

Awesome! Looking forward to the ride reports and photos. Hope the deal goes

Joe! The 52 Bomba is an awesome bike. I ran mine with Bosco bars. Had the Bosco
Bullmoose originally then switched to standard Bosco. Hope you enjoy it.

There is a tab for geometry. Effective top tube and seat tube seem most
pertinent.
Looks like a really nice frame.

Kim, that comment gave me weird flashbacks to when I was married!

Excellent topic that could generate similar reflections.
Wishing I could contribute but my rides are still to young to qualify as time

Need and want are two different things.
Do any of us really need every riv we own?

Not sure I understand the whole buying a Rivendell that you don't need

My wife's pbh is long for her torso (relative to many folks), and she's
prone to neck and shoulder pain if too stretched out on a bike for more
than a few miles.
The other week I finally swapped out the 50mm stem on her Roadini with a 0
offset stem I bought from James/Analog a looong time go.
Oh, and one more thing: switched from the 55cm cromo Alba to an old 56cm
wide HA Albatross bar. That teensy 1cm more width is nice too. I wish Nitto
still made them that way.

I wasn't able to get comfortable on my Albatross bars until I switched to a
lower Nitto NP 12cm stem, and the Nitto S84 seat post with 4cm setback. I
also tilt them down so the bar is perpendicular to my arm and my wrist is
straight. I simply needed more space, more reach, and to take the kinks
James, they look really lovely.
Q: when are you bringing back black Mark's rack? (or F32)

Those are similar looking! The unique thing with the Tumbleweed bar is the the
middle section is wider than normal to facilitate using a bar bag. But although
they don't list it, I am assuming the SOMA bar is lighter since it is aluminum.
Yes, steel bars tend to be heavier, but I rarely find
The Tumbleweed Persuader looks very similar to the Soma Dream bar, though
the Soma comes in aluminum.
Why do steel frames feel good while steel bars just feel harsh and heavy?
At least the ones I've tried.

Just to swing it over to Rivendell. The Legolas from 10+ years ago and the
Rodeo had always been a available in 1 inch threadless options. It is a good
way for those bicycle models to have compatibility with “modern” components and
aesthetic. Threadless stems in 1 inch and 1 1/8 inch fit with
I have to agree about the width of the Albatross bars, a little wider would be
nice, but if you put it into the context of when they actually came out, at
that time they were considered quite wide. Handlebars across ALL disciplines
have gotten MUCH wider. The Billie bar is a little wider
Just wanted to chime in and say that the fit and finish on these stems is
phenomenal. I ordered a 30mm to run drops on my Clem and was really
impressed with the craftsmanship- the expander wedge snugs easily and there
is no play or "rocking" back in forth felt with the stem run at full
I am glad you bought it, because I kinda thought it didn't really look like the
size listed and had I known it was a 52 I might not have been able to resist.

Well that sure is a vintage photo of the OO (Original Owner), what with the
saddle-to-bar drop, toe clips, racing bars, down tube shifters, and tires
skinnier than 44mm!

I agree. If you plan to ride the bike through "salt and snow" and lock it
up outside public buildings, then it makes sense to use a less expensive
frame.
As for the XO-2 versus Expedition, I prefer the looks of the the
Expedition, but, again, for "salt and snow," the XO-2 may be the better

After fiddling for quite a while I've learned the following from this
experiment:
- metal fenders are a craftsman install. Poorly installed, they are nuts;
well installed and...
- well installed metal fenders ride beautifully and quiet and solid on
asphalt and dirt roads and smoother trails.

Hey, I have a 56cm Heron Road that I was planning to post soon (gotta find
some time to write it up). Complete bike with frame in pristine condition
and almost all new parts, including Velocity wheels I bought from Rivendell.
Contact me off-list if you want to know more.

the Honda Element, stuff the bike in, and drive away with an instant bike
collection.
