NYC peeps can pick up the henry hudson trail or the edgar felix bikepath almost directly from the train stations. Both are somewhat scenic with almost no elevation. Sandy Hook is great too but I think the ferry shuts down at the end of sept. That said, you can just about ride the HHT to
