Also looking for:

[RBW] Re: Orange Ram touchup paint

2022-12-25 Thread Chris Dresden
I should have mentioned that a few years ago the rd dropout cracked and I
took it back to Riv who had it re-brazed in Sacto and then sent to
a paint matcher to repaint the repaired area who was obviously really good
at this and I could not see any change in the color.

Re: [RBW] Re: Will's Roadini SS

2022-12-25 Thread Patrick Moore
The Monocog 29er is a worthy steed; my present 2012 model (much modified
from the original by replacing crank, pedals, cog, brakes, bar, levers,
saddle) is my second; I had a 2010 even more modified with drop bar. I'd be
perfectly happy with the 2012 tho' it's far more beefy than I need if only
it had about 2 cm more clearance in back for a true 76 mm tire. As it is
the ~71-72 mm tire clears the stays by as little as 1 mm (tire wobbles) and
rubs at the slightest provocation.

If your tour was pre-fatbike, did you ever think of the SnoCat rims? I used
those on a Fargo until I switched to tubeless.

Do you have any photos of the touring Monocog?

the Q but if one can be built as a ss with a Q of no more than 160 I'd be
very interested for our local sandy trails. As it is, I've been thinking of
a 29er+ replacement for my Monocog 29er on which the rear 71 mm WTB ranger
rubs the stays in corners but fat would be even better if the Q could be

Re: [RBW] Re: Will's Roadini SS

2022-12-25 Thread Patrick Moore
I'm still curious whether righthand thread lockrings add any security to a
thread-on cog; it seems to me that butted tight against the cog, the cog
and lockring make up a single threaded piece that will respond to reverse
pressure just as the cog alone will. I'd be happy to hear more on the
subject. Perhaps it adds security simply by adding more threads to the
connection?

That said, again, I never had a problem with just a cog and no lockring;
and of course red Loctite will stick that cog onto the threads almost
permanently until you heat the stuff.

Patrick Moore, who did once torque the threads off a cheap stamped cog
*clockwise* on a cheap Normandy fw hub when accelerating hard from a light.

Re: [RBW] Widest tires on green Quickbeam?

2022-12-25 Thread Corwin Zechar
I have run 38mm Schwalbe Marathon Supreme Duremes under SKS longboards on
my green Quickbeam. I think they were P45s. Given that the widest tire I am
aware of fitting on a Quickbeam (also green) was 44mm, this seems correct.

A good rule of thumb is max tire = fender -10mm, so 35mm tires for 45mm

 collection of Hunqapillar photos.

One thing I've noticed is that some of the very earliest Hunqapillars
have mismatched headtube lugs. The top has points on the sides but on
 some
bikes, the bottom headtube lug is rounded, with no point on some bikes and
pointed on the sides of others. I'm wondering if this factor
differentiates Tawain Hunqapillars from the MUSA/Japan (of Toyo made some,
it seems like they did) ones.

The 54cm proto-type had the rounded side on the bottom lug.

I believe this is Marc's bike and I think he has stated it was a
