I see many Saddlesacks and Happisacks resting squarely on rear racks. What
do users do to prevent damage to contents (quart jars of pickles, laptops)
from the jarring over severe bumps with the rack transmitting the blow
through the bottom of the bag to the contents?

I’m a fan of the FL540s. They come in both black/silver and silver/silver
variants. The silver/silver seems to be a bit harder to find right now, but

For me it has been a leap of faith. Although, I was at least able to ride my Clem for about 3 minutes on a very cold January morning. That was all I needed. And after spending a full year with it I had few doubts regarding my Gus purchase. Perhaps you can find someone here that is close enough

That is awesome! I love my Clem for all kinds of riding but most of my
miles are on asphalt. I'll be looking forward to hearing how this bike
compares to others you've ridden. To me the Clem has a unique ride quality
that no other bike offers although I've not ridden many other Rivendell
Looks like a comfy ride! I remember reading a tidbit on how riv lengthens
their head tubes on stepthrus so the joints of the down tube and top tube
aren’t so congested. That bike illustrates the congestion point! Not sure
if it’s solely for aesthetics or if there’s more to it…

Nice build. Off-topic alert. I recently changed my Clem to 1x and am using
a 40T chainring and 11-48 cassette. I never use the 48 and think I could
easily have gone with a 11-42. I'm interested to find out how you do on
steep inclines with the 42/36 low gear with this setup.
