I feel the space crunch, I'm living in a small apartment in San Francisco
with only a small back yard and set up a tarp down there. Nothing special,
mostly full of bikes too. Tried building in the house once, but had the
same problem of needing to walk up and down the stairs to get parts
Wow, interesting mod. I've added a longer B-Screw to derailers to get a
little more spring tension, not the most elegant solution, but no need to
take the derailer body apart. I'm interested to hear how it goes if you do
take it apart. Good luck.

I had a similar problem. I mounted the hupe on my bike just for a short
ride to carry some bike parts. Jerry rigged a basket onto the hupe and
carried a bunch of sugino cranksets and other bike parts (including 12
other hupes). A bit over the weight limit of the hupe, but worked for the
ride.
