[RBW] Re: The "One Bike" for a featherweight?
I'm 135 lbs and I own two bikes: Hunqapillar + A. Homer Hilsen. I used to have a San Marcos, but my plan for years was to own exactly these two Rivendells, so I upgraded as a present to myself for landing a new job. As a fellow lightweight, I'd focus on geometry, tire clearance, brake type, and of course aesthetics (none of these frame are cheap!). If you're ok maxing out with 42 mm tires, build up your San Marcos or get an AHH (stouter tubing). They are both super capable for the riding you describe and, as Deacon Patrick pointed out above, it's more about how the frames* ride* with loads than anything. You will need to be reasonably responsible when you load them up above ~25 lbs and hit the trails for extended lengths, but otherwise you will be ok. Speaking from experience, Hunq/Bomba lust is strong once it starts and might be insatiable by alternatives. I love my Hunqapillar for both loaded and unloaded off-roading and bikecamping on Bay Area trails and single-track. Sure, it's a tad heavier, but I can focus on knocking around and having fun without any morsel of doubt that I might wreck my frame on the wrong trail, or even ding the top tube for all the reasons top tubes get dinged. The Hunqapillar is happy to take on endless load and rough terrain without sacrificing its ride quality/handling. It fits 60mm tires and, in my opinion, has the best Rivendell head badge. FWIW I can keep up with roadies on either bike, but if I could only keep one, it would be the Hunq. Short of Evel Knievel mountain bike terrain, I appreciate never feeling anywhere close to the frame's upper limit no matter what I get into. I advise you chat with the seller of the used 54cm Hunq a few posts below this one... that might make your decision easier. [RBW] Made in Taiwan AHH?
FWIW ordered a MUSA AHH in Feb 2018 with expectations set for a full 6-9 month lead time. To my surprise, the frame showed up at RBW two months after Waterford received the order. Yes, I knew about the MIT AHH (and rode the sample at RBWHQ - it’s awesome!) before I put my deposit down, but I’ve been eyeing the original design + cantilevers for years! -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "RBW Owners Bunch" group. [RBW] Re: Custom frames sold out
Correction - there is a link to the deposit page in the new 2018 copy for every made to order frame page. Customs still prompt you to contact the crew. [RBW] Re: Custom frames sold out
I noticed the lead time-related copy for each frame has been updated for 2018. Lead time estimates on the stouter made-to-order frames (Hunq, Atlantis) have improved to 4-6 months, while it appears they've deliberately withheld estimates for the lighter frames (AHH, Roadeo). Could be the true temper thing. Frame deposit page still live and updated to reflect 2018 pricing, but accessible only via search (https://www.rivbike.com/search?q=deposit). I get the impression one should be able to kick off a custom frame no problem, you just have to pick up the phone. [RBW] Re: Custom frames sold out
I actually found it odd that the frames appeared to be "In Stock" since I knew the made-to-order frames weren't actually sitting in Walnut Creek. With the change in optics, I would now hope that the 63 Roadeo is on a hook in their warehouse, and if I were to put the comically-large-for-me frame in my cart and pay up, I could then hop on BART and pick it up much sooner than many months later. I do agree that some copy change would make things crystal clear, but at least this way nobody has the affordance to pull the trigger on a frame they (somehow) don't realize is 9 months out. FWIW, Rivendell took my deposit on a Waterford canti-Hilsen on Jan 31. Expected turnaround on the Hilsen holds at 6-9 months, OK by me as I have a continuous stream of life stuff to distract me in the next few months. [RBW] Re: WTB: Nitto Rivendell Bullmoose bars
Thanks, Leslie! Perhaps I'm not as good at search as I think I am. Ordered the bars last night. Given the bars were in the Last Chance section, and they've gone out of stock, does that infer the Rivendell Bullmoose is no longer? [RBW] Re: Riv request for store credits
Bought a set of $10 credits on Feb 21, and ordered new bars last night Feb 23. FWIW, the difference between my two order numbers is 2,954! [RBW] WTB: Nitto Rivendell Bullmoose bars
Just checking if anyone on the list is unloading the Rivendell via Nitto Bullmoose bars. Looking to finally try them on my Hunq. Bonus points if they are fillet brazed. These would have been my third post-Hail Mary purchase at Riv, alas they are missing from the website entirely. Please DM if you are looking to sell - thanks!
